Hello

when pressing the button uncage of the IR the missile does not block the objective that I have just in front, simply it does not work, according to the manual and videos that I have seen a ring should leave on the objective and the missile be blocked in the objective, to somebody else happens to him or I'm doing something wrong (I do not think so). :helpsmilie:

What is exactly the purpose of the uncage function

The uncage function in the family of AIm9 missiles has the purpose of freeing the missile seeker to start looking for targets. Once uncaged you start to hear a very characteristic growl tone, when a missile is "seeing" a possible target the growling tone increase in sound.

In fighter jets like the f16 or f18 you normally uncage the missile either when you want to use the missile head to find a target or if the target has been locked through the radar to make sure that the seeker is actually seeing the target that the radar is telling him. If the missile is not correctly tracking the same target as the radar when you uncage the missile the missile seeker representation on the HUD wil start circling around. If the IR lock is valid, the missile will perfectly follow the target with this increasing growling sound.

someone can try please if you see the ring by pressing uncage, I fear being the only

I can confirm this, the uncaging does not seem to do anything. The circle indicating where the missile is looking does not appear.

The growling tone is not specific to uncaging. When uncaged the missile IR seeker gimbal is fixed and it is looking along the direction your aircraft is pointing. If you point the nose of the aircraft at the target then, when sufficiently close, the IR missile achieves a lock and the high pitched growling tone can be observed. If you steer the aircraft away from the target you will easily break the lock as the target is no longer in the field of view of the IR seeker. If you uncage the missile however, the gimbal of the missile seeker is allowed to move. This enables you to keep the lock more easily when maneuvering.

There will always be bugs. If everything is a priority nothing is.

Great, thanks for the fix!

Btw, the manual does not mention a difference between the RB-24J and the RB-74, so you might want to add that to the manual.

Thanks for reporting back. Turns out I had IR uncage mapped to LCtrl+LAlt+C, which is apparently also used for "select data cartidge - down". So I had been selecting data cartridges during dogfights all this time :megalol:

Anyway, the bug is fixed, all is fine! Thanks devs!
