falcon_120 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Hi guys, I was thinking on ordering either the monstertech hotas table mount or the Virpil one, who honestly seems like a better price performance option. In any case, I was wondering, if, given that i dont have a home cockpit; the HOTAS are lying over my office table, the position at which you can leave the hotas thanks to the table mounts was really more comfortable? Is it worthy? Any of you out there that regret the purchase? I was also wondering if the whole thing is really sturdy and does not "shake" when you are in a dogfight pulling hard lets say. PD: I use a Warthog Joystick and a TWCS throttle.
some1 Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 I have Monstertech and used Wheelstand pro before it. The biggest advantage of table mount or floor mount is that you can use joystick length extension, which is one of the things that really transform your flight simming experience. Even a short one like 5-10 cm. The mount itself is very sturdy and does not move. However, if your desk is not ultra solid, it can shake during hard maneuvers, with everything on it like the monitor. Wheelstand pro is better in that regard since it does not touch the desk, but it takes more space and you have to stow it after flying (unless you have a flight sim dedicated rig) The advantage of monstertech over virpil is the table clamp which let's you quickly attach the thing, and a sleeker design that takes less space on the desk. If you don't need those, virpil is good enough. Hardware: VPForce Rhino, FSSB R3 Ultra, Virpil WarBRD, Hotas Warthog, Winwing F15EX, Slaw Rudder, GVL224 Trio Throttle, Thrustmaster MFDs, Saitek Trim wheel, Trackir 5, Quest Pro
dburne Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 (edited) I have both - A Virpil setup with their table mount, and a VKB Gunfighter Pro setup with a Monster Tech extended table mount. (I got the extended as I was using the extension with it). The Monster Tech is a real work of art, and rock solid and very quick to attach/detach. The Virpil is rock solid as well, and attaches/detaches pretty quickly also. Monster Tech is a little more adjustable. Virpil little more economical. If you do decide to go with either, I would recommend as mentioned by some1 also going with an extension as well, nothing like having an extended center mounted joystick - I could never go back. I would note I also have a standard Monster Tech table mount for my Warthog throttle. Greyman Posted September 10, 2018 Posted September 10, 2018 Table-mount wasnt a good idea with my glass-topped desk, but my wheelstand pro is awesome.
Ssnake51 Posted September 11, 2018 Posted September 11, 2018 Does depend a lot on what one's desk is. When going from the wheelstand pro to a table mount I decided on getting one of these : Bush Business desk Very solid, the desktop is thick enough to get a good clamp with the Monstertech's. Monstertech mounts are better than Virpil's. And they have mounts for a wide range of Hotas products. Of course, you will have to pay more for them, but well worth it imho.
MartinAir Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 My plan is to get the TM Warthog HOTAS and a stand or desk mounts. I'm torn between the WheelStand Pro Warthog Deluxe V2 and the VPC Desk Mounts. Pricewise they're about the same, considering taxes/shipping costs etc. Each has pros/cons, the VPC desk mounts are more portable whereas the WheelStand Pro more adjustable. Any suggestions?
Chopper A-10 Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 I made my mounts out of plywood and attached them to the underside of the desk. A little plywood, screws, wood putty, grey paint and black duct tape does the trick. Had to remake the joystick mount recently because I went with an extension. Bob_Bushman Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 I was flying with a buddy who needed to swap out an ice pack for his shoulder every 40 minutes or so. After I convinced him to get some table mounts he hasn't needed another ice pack even playing 8+ hours. Getting the sticks lower also completely removes the sense that your hands might not be large enough to reach all buttons and hats. Getting the right angle on things pretty much completely changes the experience. I don't own either mounts, instead I'm using a dig solution of mostly 2×4" and wooden shelf boards stuck to a corner, with it I am getting it just right and probably haven't spent more than $50. A potential problem is doing changes wiuldninvolve breaking out a drill/screwdriver or even the handsaw. i7 8700k @ 4.7, 32GB 2900Mhz, 1080ti, CV1 Virpil MT-50\Delta, MFG Crosswind, Warthog Throttle, Virptil Mongoost-50 throttle.
Chopper A-10 Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 Desk Mount I agree . . the lower the better . . get it like the real cockpit . . my right arms rests on my right thigh . . I fly only in VR . . these mounts work great. i7-7700K 4.20Ghz | GeForce GTX 1080Ti DUKE | ASUS Maximus IX Hero Z270 | Samsung 960 | Corsair CPU Cooler | G.SKILL 32GB | Oculus VR Rift | Saitek PRO Pedals & TM HOTAS Warthog Throttle & Joystick |
MartinAir Posted October 26, 2018 Posted October 26, 2018 I made my mounts out of plywood and attached them to the underside of the desk. Chopper Nice craftsmanship, Chopper! ;) I've been using the Logitech 3D Pro, so it'll be a big change once I get the Warthog HOTAS, at least I hope. So many of you are using the extensions. Why? Which one should I get? All of them? Martin
