Aeroscout Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 What defines "good" FPS? mine right now, on a semi demanding mission (the Su-25T quick start mission) I get any where from the upper teens to the mid 50s. However, there is not real noticeable lag, the only way (I could find)to actually get lag is to go into F3 and pop a bunch of flares... Is this good? or will my FPS still deteriorate if i were to play online? DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
Ven Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Many people say 30fps is all human eye can see because that's what video is at. Not true for games because unlike video, there's no motion blur. 60fps is generally considered good fps and some people swear things look at lot better at 90fps and 120fps but personally, 30 ~ 50fps is usually good enough for me. And this depends on screen size as well. On larger screens, you can get away with lower fps. Movies for example are 24fps. 1080p high definition are also 24fps.
Aeroscout Posted May 25, 2007 Author Posted May 25, 2007 Ok, thanks... I only have a low res. 27 in. screen. so... well, i average around 30 or so, ok, thank you. AlienXE9kGT Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 if you had ever played Quake3Arena,you will find that 30fps is bullshit for video games! And 60fps is the best value for both the game and the PC hardware. If you were a Quake hardcore player, you absolutely enjoyed the crazy 300fps or higher! I think a constant and steady 60fps is the best for most video games. And a steady 30fps is only for RTS type games.
Ramstein Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 geeesh,, I am getting 6 to 30 and dipping down to 6 over the toughest parts of the map is really bumming me out... I have to figure out what my bottleneck is. I expected better. Grimes Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 In my experience the largest factor is how stable the performance is. If the frame rate jumps around alot even in the incredibly high range, it its noticeable. The right man in the wrong place makes all the difference in the world. Prophet Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 True. But even though some consider 20FPS or so good in this sim, you try and circle around a Shilka or so, trying to keep your eyes on him. It just seems to be sketchy. I would love to see drastic improvement in FPS.
rattler Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Try another Gb of ram. I have a p5p800s lga775 and intel cpu 3.2ghz HT. I get 21 around busy airports 35 to 75 over land and Higher over water. I have a lot of highdef A/C as well as mine. Use the FPS tweaks I tried the High scenery tweak to Med and I have all the high settings on and it made no difference to my FPS. That was a good change. This game is CPU heavy but you should not have too many issues with what you have. My vid card is Saphire 1600 pro 215mb agp. If I don't go core duo I will get the same card you have. It shows stats almost identical to the PCIe Version. In some cases just a couple of FPS better. Some might disagree but I think another Gb, of ram and some tweaking will solve most of your problems. You will be able to enjoy the game. Grant you bigger is better for Lockon but you should do ok. Cheers. P.S. I just saw where you said you had 1Gbdual ram. So you have 2GB of ram if I read it right or you have 512dual that gives you 1gb. The main thing is 2Gb total so if you have that then try some tweaking and some FPS downloads. You should run better than me and I have very minor issues with Lockon with my rig.Good Luck.
