dburne Posted October 6, 2018 Posted October 6, 2018 Anyone notice a drop in VR performance in DCS of late? Running the Open Beta - Normandy takeoff mission in the Spit. I was getting at min 45 fps min on the runway. Now I am dropping into the low 30's on the runway. I am using the Rift with ASW off. Now in the past few days, I have updated my video drivers to the latest - 416.16. I have been on the Oculus PTC 1.31 since it was available ( with no issue), now on release 1.31. Updated also to Windows version 1809. I also made sure everything set back to High Performance after updating to 1809. Just curious if others have noticed a drop recently? eaglecash867 Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 Don, I've got the latest NVidia drivers and latest Windows update, also the latest version of the OpenBeta, and I did have performance issues at first. I had forgotten that I needed to reinstall the shaders mod. Did you remember to put the mod back on after the latest DCS update? I'm sure you did, but I know how it is to think you have covered all the bases and there's something simple that gets ya. etherbattx Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 i haven’t noticed any performance degradation with Windows 1809.
Kayos Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 Ot is a little worse since the last DCS update I’ve noticed. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

dburne Posted October 7, 2018 Author Posted October 7, 2018 I doubt it is the Fall Windows Update, but many people are reporting minor problems with. I set my machines to reject it. Also Don, why would High Performance power setting make a difference for VR use? I am not sure it does, just something I have always done to help insure I am getting the most from my machine that I can. Vannipo Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 I have noticed, that other planes in the picture, will cause a massive fps drop. Right now. Sometimes only 2 AI-Aircrafts are needed rolling to the runway, that DCS goes under 45fps. I had set up carrier with some life on it. And the fps drops, even when I am far away and dont even can see the carrier in VR. Just rotating the head towards it. So, I dont know, maybe ED has to sort objects out, which are not visible or too far away. Strange engine. I have the feeling, we all have to spent much money for GPUs to compensate the faulty, non-optimized engine of DCS. How heavy the fps drops, if u have a couple of objects in the frame is not normal.
DerekSpeare Posted October 7, 2018 Posted October 7, 2018 ... Strange engine. I have the feeling, we all have to spent much money for GPUs to compensate the faulty, non-optimized engine of DCS. How heavy the fps drops, if u have a couple of objects in the frame is not normal. I believe this is the case, too. While ED was among the first to hook up VR back some time ago, I'm of the opinion that much work needs to be done "under the hood" to really pull the VR load like it needs to pull it. As it stands, there's no PC available to run DCS in VR on maximum at a locked 90fps... My guess is that a 2080ti with 8700k cpu is the best answer to getting as many frames as possible in VR. Yeah, man this VR stuff can sure motivate one to spend some bucks. Got an EVGA RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 Ultra on pre-order, and planning a new system build here soon - likely an i9 9900k along with a Z390 MB when they become available.
