Meh...not to denigrate the donation part , and i know we love to hear of real Hornet pilots validating our passion , but I'm ultimately leery of their ability to confirm flight characteristics . Systems , yes . Numbers , yes . But absent physical sensations , FOV , control force feedback , and given our controller curves viz the real control inputs versus flight control outputs , I don't think the person exists who could tell us "it flies like the real thing" .

It doesn't matter , really . I loved flying the Hornet in Jane's , and I love flying it even more now...

First off, thank you to everyone that donated. I'm honored to have such a following and happy that we were able to support such a worthy cause.

With that said...

You're absolutely right. I can't. No one can. I don't intend to. This video is for fun. It is not going to be a serious comparison of a PC flight simulator to the real airplane.

In part, because you're absolutely right. No sim - not even the multi-million dollar simulators that we have at the squadrons - can accurately replicate the jet 100%. There are always "sim-isms" and the lack of feel is a huge factor. In fact, I'd bet that if you asked most pilots, they'd tell you at least 60% of the job is done through sensations no simulator can replicate.

Whether it's wind noise, the buzz off the LEXes when you're over 4 bills, G-forces, energy states, etc. There's a lot of very important information that you learn just by the feel of the aircraft.

The other part is that this is not a simulator. The controls will be different. The pilot-vehicle interface (PVI) will be different. It's not like jumping in the jet or sim after a two year hiatus (which in and of itself would be a challenge).

And that's totally fine! It was a fun way to encourage people to support real victims (fighter pilots) of Hurricane Michael (that still need help, btw.) I'm looking forward to the chance to try it out and I'm sure hilarity will ensue when it becomes a "fish out of water" video.

Thanks for watching, and I hope you'll all enjoy it no matter how it turns out.
