Thrustmaster Cougar Slew Rate Adjustment Needed

Recommended Posts

My Microstick Slew rate is too aggressive for the F-18, I need to slow it down, but I cant figure out how? I read about changing the Windows keyboard rates, but it had NO impact. Here is my current Foxy Programming values. I would appreciate any help, thanks.

MIY 5 3 (0 40 60 100) (/H Throttle_Designator_Controller-Down ) ^ (/H Throttle_Designator_Controller-Up )

MIX 5 3 (0 40 60 100) (/H Throttle_Designator_Controller-Left ) ^ (/H Throttle_Designator_Controller-Right )

Hi,

Try this statement at the top of the file:

USE RATE (200)

It limits the character generation to 5 keystrokes per second, it works well for me.

For work: iMac mid-2010 of 27" - Core i7 870 - 6 GB DDR3 1333 MHz - ATI HD5670 - SSD 256 GB - HDD 2 TB - macOS High Sierra

For Gaming: 34" Monitor - Ryzen 3600 - 32 GB DDR4 2400 - nVidia RTX2080 - SSD 1.25 TB - HDD 10 TB - Win10 Pro - TM HOTAS Cougar

Mobile: iPad Pro 12.9" of 256 GB

Ok,, I now see that statement at the top already, but its set to "50", I will tinker with that. in the mean time yesterday, I would up trying to see if I could assign the microstick to DCS Axis instead, and i was successful after tinkering around with the Cougar Control Panel. I must say, it seems VERY nice as you can actually vary the speed of the slew rate by the amount of movement you input into the microstick, so it can be fast if you want, and slow also. And in addition, you can adjust the curves within DCS.Thanks for the feedback though, I dont know exactly how the values impact the slew rate, but i will fiddle with it for future reference. Many thanks again sir!

Thank you for that link, but that is for tuning within DCS, my Microstick was NOT seen by DCS at the time as it was managed only through Foxy Software. I appreciate the thought though.

Rudel, I found this in another one of your responses,,, very informative! I thought this would also be a great place to post it:}.

Hello,

Actually, I dont program my microstick within DCS ... I do so trough the Cougar's Foxy programming utility.

In Foxy, I use these statements with the Microstick:

1) This RATE statement is for reducing the speed of character generation, to once every 90 ms, making the control a bit slower:

USE RATE(90)

2) And the next statements program the microstick for dual use: Radar/EP13 cursor movement; and Rb-05 missile control if used while S3 is pressed:

Rem -----------------------------------------------------------

Rem Microjoystick: Radar/EP13 Cursor & Rb05 Control (shifted)

Rem -----------------------------------------------------------

MIX /I 5 3 (0 30 70 100) (/H Rb05_stick_yaw_left) ^ (/H Rb05_stick_yaw_right)

/O 5 3 (0 30 70 100) (/H Radarstick_Left) ^ (/H Radarstick_Right)

MIY /I 5 3 (0 30 70 100) (/H Rb05_stick_pitch_down) ^ (/H Rb05_stick_pitch_up)

/O 5 3 (0 30 70 100) (/H Radarstick_Down) ^ (/H Radarstick_Up)

I have divided each axis in three zones of travel:

0-30% = Left or Down

30-70% = no action (to prevent inadvertent movement while centered)

70-100% = Right or Up

Used this way it works well, tough I did draw with a marker, two lines over my microstick handle, to better grasp which way is up or left smile.gif

Best regards.

You are welcome :) .. I actually love my Cougar, mostly because of Foxy .. I wonder why Thrustmaster chose to discard it for the warthog and went with the expense of developing a new programming utility, it would have been much cheaper to extend Foxy.

That is the main reason why I have resisted to upgrade to a Warthog, in spite of having more axis and buttons, instead I do all I can to keep my trusty Cougar in service ... so, I jumped at the opportunity and purchased a set of these hall-like sensors:

When they arrive I will write a short review about them :D

Cheers

I agree, I have (2) Cougars. 1 is OEM, the other had the Mods done by others. Both are pretty old, I have had to replace parts in the past, but the one that is modded is getting a little sloppy in the stick. Anyway, I tried TARGET a few times, I got a little frustrated. I eventually stuck with FOXY because there was something i was trying to do that could not be accomplished thru TARGET, never looked back.

Yes, this is for future reference at this point. As I stated above, i am using native DCS myself right now myself, and I am very pleased, especially that you can adjust the curves.
