Strange. I have no problem detecting even single units, as long as they arent Air Defence category, or stuck inside trees or urban area. Set the radar to LIN, and adjusted Gain in below shot from a sweep over Caucasus Senaki airfield. 4 single units (BTR-80) can been seen around waypoint circle, thats parked in each corner of airfield on.

2nd shot is including a radar export, showing a single unit out in the fields. Export actually shows more nuances.

It works for units, but it doesn't for static objects. It isn't consistent that radar can detect a tiny SA-8 miles away, but unable to see a bridge some yards down the nose.

I had Gain assign to an axis (slider) on my HOTAS Throttle. That messed up my radar. I deleted that binding och now the radar works well again.

May I ask in what respect the gain was affected? I too has it assigned to a joystick axis and find the radar almost useless in 2.x (works fine in 1.5.7 with the same binding). I do see the radar screen change when moving the axis on the joystick though, but "best" readability is always in the same end position and degrades if changed.

We still have this. Makes it extremely hard to use especially since forests appear just the same as water...

Also, even if it would not represent the real thing, I'd very much appreciate a special option to invert the colouring to "green hot" instead of black hot. Would be much less stress on the eyes to "read" the scope then. Would put that in the same category as the option to have JHMCS on the left eye or even both in VR.

Yes, but it's just that the pictures Knock-knock presented above looks so much better than I can get it. Figured that it might be a combination of that bug and user error.

Thank's all for your replies. I sorted it up, and you led me in the right direction. I had Gain assign to an axis (slider) on my HOTAS Throttle. That messed up my radar. I deleted that binding och now the radar works well again. I even se the ships better now than before. Thanks knock-knock for the pictures. I will experiment a little to work out the land units as well. Once again, thanks all!

Weird I have mapped it to the slider on my HOTAS throttle as well and it works fine (I usally put it in the most aft position to get a good radar picture).

I don't know exactly. I simply guess that the binding to my slider (on throttle unit) made the Gain to be in some end position and made my radar completely useless. If I were you I would try to delete that binding. It helped me. I have the Gain assigned to keys instead. Land and sea come out fine now, and I can clearly se ships. Today I even (I think) saw land units in the radar.

It might be that i didn't make the adjustments in the actual binding right.

Hi! Although Heatblur will live through DCS history books as the first company ever providing a functional AG radar in an addon, it's not more than a band aid using a back door in the SDK not originaly thought for that. It has notorious limitations, like the imposibility to detect any structure (including runways), any civilian traffic (including oil tankers) and mismatching radar returns (for example, showing forests and water bodies in exactly the same colors - it didn't happen in 1.5). Only certains vehicles can be detected (only because they are in some sort of definition list somewhere) without taking into account if they are under vegetation or behind a building.

It seems that Viggen's radar is very prone to changes on the visual core, which it's very undesirable in the long term. Plus, ED SDK will soon add a proper AG radar modelling that should overcome all these limitations and will be properly supported regardless major changes in the simulator.

Does HB have plans to move AG Radar to new technology when available? Or may they improve the AG radar when the F-14 is out? I would like to know HB's plans to keep up to date this very important sensor in the viggen in the months to come.
