zcrazyx Posted December 26, 2018 Posted December 26, 2018 (edited) I have a question on the VR performance of the RTX 2070 when it comes to multiplayer as im considering purchasing the two. I've heard mixed reviews on what card to get to get the most out of VR, such as the gtx 1070 was capable of pushing it and seeing as the rtx 2070 holds similiar performance as the 1080 but with newer drivers im curious as if it would be a good idea to make the purchase. Full system specs are, Intel 5930k 4.3ghz Asus x99 pro latest bios 16gb 3000mhz vengance rgb low profile gddr4 (being incresed to 32gb) Corsair 850w psu Kingston 1tb ssd And some generic seagate drives Gtx 960 to be upgraded to rtx 2070 if performance for vr is good Edited December 28, 2018 by zcrazyx

TonyStovepipe Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 I have a 2070 and VR performance is very good. I get constant 45 fps in most cases. But I stopped using VR for DCS as it hurt my eyes trying to look for targets on low resolution of vr. My spec are. gigabyte 2070 gaming oc. i5 6600K oc @4.2 16gb ram
Headwarp Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 (edited) 2070 benchmarked just between the 1080 and the 1080Ti in rasterized performance. If resolution and screen door is a concern I recommend checking out the new Samsung Odyssey+ with it's anti screen door effect OLED's, as opposed to the rift. I don't have the Odyssey+ but I do very much enjoy my Odyssey. WMR controllers can lose tracking easier than a rift with 3 sensors or a vive, but for sitting down, in a racing or flight sim, no complaints whatsoever using WMR. Bit's also right. Helps to know what kind of system you're putting the GPU into. BitMaster Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 should work if you OC that CPU. 4.2-4.5G is what I know is doable with the right cooler and board. As long as you get it to 4.2-4.4G it should be OK. The stock settings are maybe a bit too slow. I thought as much, it sits at 3 which is a shame and for some reason it doesnt like being overclocked, i get an error screen if i try, maybe i'll scan some forums for some settimgs and see if they work, considering i sometimes get overclock errors on stock voltage i belive something is a miss. Then again the first gen x99 boards were known to have issues.
BitMaster Posted December 27, 2018 Posted December 27, 2018 I just wanted to add this to my post, be cautious, those early X99 had their flaws, with USB and booting and a few others. I run that chip myself at a remote site, with an Asus X99-WS/IPMI board. Have my issue too with the IPMI on that board, but it's stable so far. I havent tested overclocking on that board due to the nature of it's server usage but the mobo claims its a board for heavy overclocking...and IPMI, that doesnt fit somehow, Asus please explain haha. Update your Bios if you havent done so yet. What cooler do you have ? Might suggest 32GB of RAM but only if you find yourself doing large missions in SP or especially MP. BTW X99 has 4 memory channels /8 slots if you populate all 8 slots you gain some improvement in memory speed. Have you updated the bios to the latest version. If your budget can extend to 2080 about equivalent to a 1080Ti or even 2080Ti my system specs are in my sig I can easily push the 1080Ti GPU and bottle neck the GPU with VR. In SP my 1080Ti loads up about 6 to 6.5GB in MP (just aerobatic server) it loads uo about 10.2GB VRAM. HTH Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment. zcrazyx Posted December 28, 2018 Author Posted December 28, 2018 I run custom water cooling so temperature is not a big factor considering it has a thick 240mm rad to itself, if i had the extra cash i would upgrade to 32gb of ram as someone suggested. The bios version will be something i look into as it has been some time since i last updated it. I will post back results tomorrow when im able to use my computer again however if anyone who either does over clocking often or knows of some forums could give me some tips then it would be most appreciated. Thank for tge advice thus far!
FragBum Posted December 28, 2018 Posted December 28, 2018 Actually all I did was step the clock multiplier up 48* worked probably with some tweaking to make it stable but *47 worked out of the box. What is your current memory configuration?? 2*16 or 4 *4?? Control is an illusion which usually shatters at the least expected moment. Gazelle Mini-gun version is endorphins with rotors. See above. Thank for tge advice thus far! I usually just google guides specific to my motherboard for a baseline. der8auer had a good video for my specific motherboard and cpu. He delids and aims for higher clocks. I mainly used it as a guide for every setting in the bios other than the vcore and cpu ratio. Pushing 5ghz isn't a priority of mine, and my attempts at it tell me I'd need to delid my 8700k to push even 5ghz, and I'm honestly not sure if that'd be enough, as voltage requirements from 4.9 to 5ghz were excessive. where 4.9 is comfortable at 1.275 vcore and an average of about 75C in stress tests. Moral of my story I guess is i'd look for guides specific to your motherboard.. in my experience they give you everything you need except the voltage and frequencies required to OC your little piece of the silicon lottery, if it plays nicely with oc'ing at all.
