How to setup SAM sites?

I'm trying to setup a Rapier FSA site, but no joy! They never fire at anything.

 

I watched 2 videos on how to setup SAM sites(not Rapier) and they just plop the units down on the map and they seem to work with no further setup.

 

Do the parts of a SAM site need to be 'connected' together somehow? So they work together?

Do they need Advanced Waypoints for Free Fire or something??

 

Or is that it? You just plop them on the map and they work?

I saw some posts about the Rapier having 'sound' bugs? But does it work?

You need to combine different types of AA and radar units in order for them to fire.

 

Anything that's not an autonomous AA vehicle will need to be combined with compatible radar(s) in order to fire (sometimes comms vehicles are also needed)

The Rapier needs at least one launcher and the Optical Tracker unit. To work together they need to be in the same group of units.

Yes, the units of the SAM system need to be on the same Unit Group. You need at least one Optical Tracker and one Launcher. If you want all-weather capability, add a Blindfire Tracker. If you want replenishment rounds, add a Land Rover truck.

No, but they are very inefective, the detection range is 30 Km and the engagement range is only 6 Km.

Yes it works, just be sure to have one tracker for each launcher, or else the rate of fire will be very low.
