I acurred to me that with my oculus rift using hdmi only and my monitor using the displayport

is it possible to add an old 1070 gtx and run my monitor with it and have my RTX 2080 run my Rift off it in dcs? Im thinking itll gain significant FPS not having to render both off the RTX2080?

Thanks in advance for you thoughts on this quite interesting idea.

Do you have 2 full video ports for 2 cards?

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

Conventional thought is that the monitor is "mirrored" for vr , and as such has very little effect on performance .

Harlikwin,s concern is valid in that many Intel motherbords do not have 2 16-lane PCIE slots . I don't think most Intel CPU's support 2x16 either .

Assuming a 1080p 60hz monitor , you might try running it on motherboard video ?

I say "might" because i an NOT a computer expert :)

My Motherboard (asus rampage 3 extreme rog)has 3 16x pcie slots, I have run triple sli cards on the board in the past, also the rift runs on HDMI on the 2080rtx and I have an old gtx 1070 just sitting around seems it could work but im no expert but it would seem that mirroring DCS(thru the display port) on the monitor would use horsepower best used for the rift.it would be sweet if it would work...……….

To do what you want wouldn't DCS have to have two separate and distinct draw call outputs? (one for each video card) Also your CPU would have to do twice the work since there is a direct link to the CPU and GPU workloads.

Well, the resolution of the mirror mode definitely has some effect on performance, you can drop the res of the mirror window and get somewhat better frames in VR (at least I did).

Yeah, but I think the issue would be having the 1070 trying to render the same thing as the 2080... So I'm thinking no. Just drawing the desktop in 2d there isn't anything there really, at least according to my GPU load meters, maybe 1% when you open a window for a second.

As I understand it this is right, in SLI the CPU load goes up. I'm not even sure how this would work since I think you need 2xsame card for SLI.

Im not talking sli ,just running the second card(1070) and plugging my monitor into it leaving the rift plugged into the 2080 im thinking theoretically it would work but Im no expert

How are you going to get DCS to send video data to two different display outputs? That is where your theory hits a wall.

To explain it more simply...

You are wanting to attach a second TV to your cable box, but it is designed to only send the picture out to a single TV at a time. You can add a splitter (SLI or attach additional monitors to a single card), but you can't change the way the cable box works...In this example the cable box is DCS.

I tried once this, with a gtx970 as second non-sli gpu, and it worked with some games (f.e. all oculus specific games) but it didn't work with DCS (DCS refused to launch until oculus and screen were on same gpu).

BTW for games working the load of the 970 for rendering desktop and mirror was 3-4% max.

Thanks for your replies to bad DCS wont let you do it 3to 4% aint much

I'd say downscaling the screen res was more than 3-4% on my system, but its a low end system.
