DUSTY Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 I've been suffering from freezing in larger MP sessions or complex missions while having perfectly good FPS. I thought that I had optimized my settings for my system quite well because in SP even with lots of units placed and a lot going on my FPS is stable and smooth. I fly the Huey mostly but also the F/A-18. In the Huey I have very few issues with freezing in large MP missions but it's far more frequent with the Hornet. Again, FPS is good but then I get random long freeze 'spikes' at all the worst times and it is SO frustrating. From another thread I downloaded Project Lasso to try and interpret what is going on and I am a bit too illiterate to know exactly what these graphs are showing me about my system so I would appreciate some help. RAM usage is very high but 'ProBalance' restrictions on program priority is also curious. Can someone please help me understand what is going on here? David OC Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 (edited) This might not be just your system, it's also a multiplayer thingy;) I get this also in very larger multiplayer games, sometimes I don't and others are screaming on comms.:) This is also why servers only allow pings of 250ms, that's not always the case tho, as bandwidth and stable connection is also important. Also the server could be having a meltdown, happens on the server I use. ED is working on a dedicated server as we write. It's in testing now. Just get your pc running as smooth as possible in a large mission in single player and disconnect everything using your internet connection for max bandwidth. TV's, Netflix, phones etc. You could also try this out and see if it helps. EDIT I will also add, when anyone moves lots of ground units in MP, we all freeze or start stuttering. This needs work on ED's side. Also the main reason we use Process lasso is to force the chip to only use cores and disable hyper threading. Right click on DCS icon in PL As you can see DCS only uses the 4 cores on my chip 0,2,4,6 I also set the priority class to always high. Goa Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 honestly I havent found any evidence after months of testing that process lasso or cpubalance improves in anyway the responsivness of my machine. With or witouht process lasso, disabling or enabling hyperthreading has no effect at all on my end. The only software I use from lasso is parckcontrol ( https://bitsum.com/parkcontrol/ ) , you might want to take a look at that :) CPU : Intel i7 8700k@5.0ghz cooled by Noctua NH-D15 / Motherboard:Asorck Z370 Taichi / RAM: 32GB GSkill TridentZ @3600mhz / SSD: 500GB Nvme Samsung 970 evo+1 TB Sabrent Nvme M2 / GPU:Asus Strix OC 2080TI / Monitor: LG 34KG950F Ultrawide / Trackir 5 proclip/ VIRPIL CM2 BASE + CM2 GRIP + F148 GRIP + 200M EXTENSION /VKB T-Rudder MKIV rudder /Case: Fractal Design R6 Define black

David OC Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 I will add that most only use PL when the CPU is not using all the cores for DCS for some reason? PL will force it to use the cores. Crimson_Ghost138 Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Hi, i am also having very bad impacts and lagging in multiplayer on large servers :( Played Aerobatics Germany today and it was stuttering alot... In singleplayer, on most missions, i get a good experience even in VR and Supersampling set to 1.5! Maybe it´s because i am using an old 2500k overclocked to 4,5Ghz ?! @Dusty, i try to find out if there is some co-incidence with our processors...
Headwarp Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 (edited) If you're going to use process lasso be sure after running any game executable for the first time after installing PLasso to right click the executable in the process lasso window and "Exclude from Probalance" Probalance tries to keep processes in check that it thinks are using more CPU than it should. You don't want it messing with dcs.exe or your other games. Frankly.. i don't remember this being a feature the first time I installed process lasso.. Since it was added I've made sure to exclude every game I run on my system, as well as any VR software. There's also a way to add .exe files to the list of programs excluded from problance somewhere within the options if you don't want to alt tab out of your game to find it in the list of programs running in the process lasso window. Other than that the only thing I've seen it recommended on these forums for is to disable logical cores for dx11/dx9/dx10 titles without completely disabling hyper-threading. I don't mind letting probalance keep my background tasks in check.. but I don't think it's really needed and added an extra step for most of our main reasons for using Process Lasso Edited February 7, 2019 by Headwarp Spoiler Win 11 Pro, z790 i9 13900k, RTX 4090 , 64GB DDR 6400GB, OS and DCS are on separate pci-e 4.0 drives Sim hardware - VKB MCG Ultimate with 200mm extension, Virpil T-50CM3 Dual throttles.
