PythonOne Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 What is the latest and best version of Sony Vegas. I'm guessing its version 7 but there are many variants like 7.0a, 7.0b, 7.0c. I want to know which one should i get for movie making.
Kifaru Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 7.0c is the latest version im aware of. Good choice though, Vegas is top notch for home style editing. [sIGPIC]http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/4178/vaafbannerum6copyyj2.gif[/sIGPIC]
PythonOne Posted July 27, 2007 Author Posted July 27, 2007 k thanks. I don't want to create a new thread for this question but i have 2 question about fraps 1.) when i press record, its kinda laggy so i want to make things smoother. First, i tried recording it half-size under the options in fraps. But then i don't see any video, any reason why? Well its recording in full-size, it works just fine. 2.) To improve on the fps, I want to follow GA's example and record with half time or whatever and later speed it up in vegas. But could anyone tell me how many times do i have to press alt+a to slow down the gameplay by 2x, 4x...etc.
sp0nge Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 1. I dont get the question but I think I know what you mean.. The clip is laggy as soon as you press record but then it smooths out? Well press record, leave it for a few seconds then press "S" to resume the replay. 2. Don't slow down more than 4x, vegas can't speed it up that much unless you want to render the clip individually and then import it, and then speed it up again. PythonOne Posted July 27, 2007 Author Posted July 27, 2007 ok but can you tell me how many times do i press alt+A in order to achieve 2x slow speed? For example: 2x (press once) 4x (press twice?)...etc.
ED Team Glowing_Amraam Posted July 27, 2007 ED Team Posted July 27, 2007 One press: Half speed 2 Presses: Double half speed. In vegas, to speed it up to normal speed, change playback rate to: 2.000 If you slowed it down 2 times, change it to 3.000. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgJRhtnqA-67pKmQ3A2GsgA ED youtube channel https://www.facebook.com/glowingamraam My facebook page
PythonOne Posted July 27, 2007 Author Posted July 27, 2007 I see there's a new sony vegas 7.0e or something. Maybe i should just keep it simple and get v6. Is there any difference between v6 and v7? Oh, and another question about sony vegas, how big is it once its installed? I need to clear up some space on my HD.
ED Team Glowing_Amraam Posted July 28, 2007 ED Team Posted July 28, 2007 I made "Edge" using Vegas 6.0. And how "advanced" in the editing area are you actually aiming for? If you're just looking for adding music and transitions to your music then you might as well stick to Movie maker 2.0. But if you want more advanced features, then sony vegas is an excellent choice. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCgJRhtnqA-67pKmQ3A2GsgA ED youtube channel https://www.facebook.com/glowingamraam My facebook page
sp0nge Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Ive got both 6 and 7 installed on my computer, vegas 6.0d is about 102.00 mb vegas 7.0 is about 172.00 mb If you plan to install DVD architect, it's 77.63 mb. vegas comes with sony media manager and thats only small. Sony Media Manager 2.2 - 14.43mb Is breaking the laws of gravity illegal? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
PythonOne Posted July 28, 2007 Author Posted July 28, 2007 very cool, anyway, is there any tutorials i can read up on as i gather up the money to get vegas? Like i want to know how to do all those blur effects and such in GA's movies.
sp0nge Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 Youtube has some free tutorials There are a LOT of tutorials that you have to pay for though. It's not a hard program to learn, but it can take a bit to get used to i guess. Just play around with it mostly. Is breaking the laws of gravity illegal? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
PythonOne Posted July 28, 2007 Author Posted July 28, 2007 If you plan to install DVD architect, it's 77.63 mb. btw, what is the dvd archietect?
warthogmadman987 Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 btw, what is the dvd archietect? Dvd Architect is a software program to make Dvd's. You can put your video on it, then add a cool looking menu and burn it onto a dvd so you can play it on your TV and make it look "Hollywood" as if you had cut scenes and other stuff! The latest greatest version of Vegas is 7.0e. In my expeirence for making movies with lockon, 6.0d would be sufficeint. (I would save some money) PS- When buy Vegas 6 or 7 it should be plain and simple, then you can go and download the updates/patches which will bring it up to status. Like lockon how it went from vanilla to 1.02, to 1.1, to 1.12b, so does Vegas. (7.0a, 7.0b, 7.0c etc...
Kifaru Posted July 28, 2007 Posted July 28, 2007 http://www.creativecow.net is a great place to find help for any editing program. I haven't looked at the tutorials for vegas but i believe there are some on the site. [sIGPIC]http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/4178/vaafbannerum6copyyj2.gif[/sIGPIC]
PythonOne Posted July 29, 2007 Author Posted July 29, 2007 thanks i got some tutorials. Btw, one question to you fraps users. What fps do you usually set the program to record as to get some smooth video?
VMFA117_Poko Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 thanks i got some tutorials. Btw, one question to you fraps users. What fps do you usually set the program to record as to get some smooth video? If You want good quality video, render track to numbered screenshots (at least 24 frames per second to get it smooth). But You will need a lot of free space on HDD. This way You will be able to set best graphic settings in LOMAC. Whole folder with screenshots put into the Sony Vegas, edit it, render and You'll get nice looking smooth video.
sp0nge Posted July 29, 2007 Posted July 29, 2007 :noexpression: @ Poko Thats like 5760 screenshots for a 4 minute video. And by "render to numbered screenshots", I hope thats a way around pressing print screen 5760 times :P It wouldn't take TOO much space up on HD. I average 150 kb per screenshot, thats, if my calculator is correct (hehe), is 864mb. Even if it renders for you, thats one time consuming process, not to mention vegas only lets you crop it down to .1 second. Is breaking the laws of gravity illegal? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]

I don't press printscreen  - when you go to "render to AVI" in upper menu, you see the option "numbered screenshots". I also never render the whole video at once. The materials for "Flanker" was size something about 5GB as I recall correctly. Rendering is a consuming process indeed. You must choose: quality or less time and size.
PythonOne Posted August 4, 2007 Author Posted August 4, 2007 Hey guys, i was wondering could you help me with this problem 1.) Whenever i record with fraps, it record just fine when the option is selected to full-size, but when i set it to half-size, the video recorded plays back a black screen Is it because I'm running on a duo core 2? If so, how can i fix the problem? I really want to improve my fps when recording because i run at a really hi-res (1920x1200). That's why i want to record in half size. By cpu is a 2.00 ghz. In vegas, to speed it up to normal speed, change playback rate to: 2.000 If you slowed it down 2 times, change it to 3.000.2.) Where is the playback rate option? I can't seem to find it in the drop down menu in vegas 7.
sp0nge Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Cant answer question one. but if you right-click on your footage and click properties, it should be right down the bottom above the undersample rate properties. Is breaking the laws of gravity illegal? [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SuperKungFu Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 for 1.) try updating your fraps to the latest 2.9.1, i've heard a similar problem with 2.9.0 or whatever. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SVK_Fox Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 VEgas 7.0 is very very similart like 6, so If you got 6 I dont see any reason to upgrade. 25 FPS is ok for video.
VMFA117_Poko Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 VEgas 7.0 is very very similart like 6, so If you got 6 I dont see any reason to upgrade. -25 FPS is ok for video. Indeed. But FRAPS needs upgrade - not Vegas :).
SVK_Fox Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Indeed. But FRAPS needs upgrade - not Vegas :). I dont know what or who need to be upgrated but, when I got ATI card it was not problem to grab video by FRAPS, I chaged my graphic card to NVIDIA but better chip and FPAPS FPS are going pretty down to 8 :( This sucks.
PythonOne Posted August 4, 2007 Author Posted August 4, 2007 Ah thanks Sponge and SKF, that fixed my problem. Let me ask a question to you folks, what is the best way to render a video at max quality? I don't want any stutters, and if i record with fraps, even slowing it down will still give me some stutters. So how do you guys do it?
