Couldn't really get any clear instructions from the NATOPS manual or other sources for a couple things.

 

What is the most common flap config. for shore takeoffs? Flaps or no flaps (full or no full)? NATOPS covers both cases here, but does not provide a clear instruction. On airshow displays it seems to be mostly a no-flap takeoff, due to the high performance nature of a flightshow display.

 

Spoiler Brake for carrier landings. Is it used or not? If yes, why and in what case?

 

 

Any inputs regarding the mentioned systems/procedures are greatly appreciated. :thumbup:

I'd always take off with some flaps, from CV it's full flap take off, from shore I'd go the hornet route of half flaps. But we shall see.

 

For landing, at least on the boat, the speed break is always deployed, so you keep the engines spooled for better response.

I don't think I've seen it explained anywhere (I probably missed it in the manual) but are flaps automatically retracted above a certain speed?

Current specs: Windows 10 Home 64bit, i5-9600K @ 3.7 Ghz, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB Samsung EVO 860 M.2 SSD, GAINWARD RTX2060 6GB, Oculus Rift S, MS FFB2 Sidewinder + Warthog Throttle Quadrant, Saitek Pro rudder pedals.

Yes indeed, although Airhunter asked about the spoiler brake, rather than speed brake.

 

Off of the top of my head I think the spoiler brake is off for CV landings. I can't see any reason for using it, and I don't recall ever seeing depoloyed spoilers on an F-14 after trapping. Could be wrong though

Spoiler Brakes off for carrier ops. Bad form to have the spoilers pop up after a trap. ANTISKID is off while on the boat as it can command a release below ten knots while taxiing.

 

Shore based takeoffs usually no flap or maneuvering flaps unless fuel is an issue, then full flap mil power. Always full flaps for shipboard ops.

 

Full Flaps do not auto retract, maneuvering flaps do based on AOA.

 

Rotate at 140-150 no flap on land based takeoffs.

Understood! Couple more things, what exactly do you mean with " unless fuel is an issue".?

 

And a few more things regarding the flaps. I understand that maneuvering flaps/slats are automatic depending of te amount of wingsweep, however they can be deployed manually. In what case would one do so?

 

In terms of the AUX flaps. Since there is this nice and big flap lever left of the throttle with no hard detends, what are the commonly used procedures with that lever? Was it ever set to half or any intermediate position except of UP and full DOWN? If yes, when?

there is a comprehensive tanning mission list that will cover all of the point you have mentioned

 

I don't use flaps on land take off, but do on landings DLC is there to help push the bird down, but don't use them constantly In the testing group some pilots extended the air breaks to land on a carrier some didn't Flaps are either up or down there is no other option

Spoiler breaks off.

 

It's a bad thing when that happens. Wouldn't fly that airframe anymore before it gets some serious maintenance rainbowdashwink.png
