please let some time pass,

the model is not done yet and there is so much left to do.

now first the basic model has to be done, including the cockpit and the gear plus the flaps.

then the 3d cockpit has to be done, so you guys see there is much to do, although alot is done now.

when the mentioned steps are done, then it has to be mapped, so just wait and watch the updates

Borchi, you are my MAN!:smilewink:

I love that plane. It is one of my favorite...

Here are some links for hi-res (very high:), most of them are in 3000*2600 available) very detailed SR-71 photos...

Hope these links of Blackbird photos will help you with your project.

Keep up the good work.

Hi, this was the ultimate a/c. During a visit at WPAFB, Dayton OH, some years ago, the Air Force Museum had one SR-71 on display. Believe me I was so proud to touch and feel that "Black Bird". Yeah, old times are gone...

Hope that will encourage u to stick with that plane!

first thanks for the links to the pictures.

they will help for sure. i got tons of pictures allready and yes i try to find as many detailed pictures as possible.

i was able to see and touch one myself when i visited an airforce museum in pheonix arizona.

i cold mentlay feel the hight records and speed records, that were achieved by this beautyful plane.

for sure i will stick with that model and i want to finish it as soon as possible.

but good things will take some time though and i want to finish this week the a-10 fueltank, make the uvw map and some skins for it.

that will probably only take 2 days and then i will be able to spend all my free time to the black project again.

you can be sure, that i work every day on the blackbird, sometimes more sometimes less, it is a timespan between 1 -16 hours.

sometimes even nightshifts.

update on the BB i am modeling the ailerons right now, might be done by tonight or late afternoon.

i started with the cockpit too, but that will take way more time, i guess at least a week of continues work. then the gear which will sum up to about the same time.

greetings

I'm glad to help you with this NOBLE task.:)

Just a quick question, did you plan to insert this plane in LO as AI or flyable?

'Cause the F-15C isn't enough powerful (it's flightmodel, and characteristics) to 'model' the SR-71. Or is it possible to 'tune' it a little:D?

I'm not sure.

Nice to hear all this good! But the cockpit....you mean the canopy? Because it wont be flyable i think? Just AI? Or are you planning to make a flight model and everything for it? :smilewink:

You can't make a FM for it since that's hard coded, i believe what he meant was build the cockpit from the external view, So when you look through the little window, you see all the nice little things in it.

For AI aircraft, try to model something we see frequently like our tankers, or AWACS...etc.

can you actually refuel in the air/while flying with the tanker?

whats awacs

I'm not sure if i understand your question. You can refuel in midair in lock on, but you are not flying the tanker. You are either flying the Su-33, or F-15, A-10 that can be refueling in lock on

And AWACS is the Airborne Warning and Control System, if you type that up in google, I'm sure you'll know what it looks like.

cool, thanks, sorry i meant flying along side or behind a tanker...

so do you just go behind a tanker to get it to put its refueling pipe out?:book:

yea you can fly along side or behind a tanker if you want

As for refueling, usually you ask AWACS where the tanker is located. But you can always approach the tanker, open your refueling door (press R) and SLOWLY approach the tanker.

hi folks,

well to answer your vital question.

yes it will be flyable with the original cockpit when i am done, but i have to wait for tomcatz to return, because he found a way to make a functional cockpit of a flyable plane, the only thing is, we can only animate the analog controls, which the sr71 one has, only!

thats why you will gat it with a original cockpit, as flyable model.

i am not sure yet which model we will replace.

hope that gives you all the answers for now.

@super kong fu:

yes right now the ailerons are done and i am working on the external cocpit, that is right.

dude i can't wait! :pilotfly: we are getting an animated SR-71 cockpit! i love you.

for the plane to replace, i have a suggestion. replace the F-16, and make it flyable by changing humancockpit from "no" to "yes". then it will fly as fast as the Black Bird

I don't swear, I don't smoke and I don't drink. Oh f**k I forgot my cigar at the pub...

hi everybody,

i am locking for a plane that has about the same engine thrust, like the blackbird:

quote wikipedia:

Each J58 engine could produce 32,500 lbf (145 kN) of static thrust.

but when the model will be done alot of testing wil take place.

so we will see what will be the results.

i would not like to replace the f-16

i reather would like to replace a model that is not so often used in missions.

ok thats it for now

greetings borchi

The MiG-25 has the 2 Turmanskij R-15B-300 with 2*101kN max thrust.

The MiG-31 has 2 Solovjov D-30F6 with 2*155kN max thrust.

So the MiG-31 would be a better choice for replacing.

Why not visit a repository?

Why not just download a model of the SR-71 and convert it to whatever format Lock-on uses? Maybe you just want to model it? That's cool too. By the way, what 3D modeler are you using and what format does Lock-on require for 3D models?

But the 25 can go faster then the 31:smilewink:

Yes, but the 31 accelerates more wild :D, (or at least, should do)

The max speed can be done by some retyping for example in the MEinit.

Because almost all of the models out there are published. You can only do certain things with them. It a form of plagerizing that is illegal by internation law AFAIK. Since many are not free, when you pay for it, you can do what you want with it, but you are not allowed to distribute it. That would defeat the purpose of paying!

So this way he can make his model and choose to not license it, giving us the ability to use it too!
