GrEaSeLiTeNiN Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 Hi, Would appreciate some help with setting up AWACS in the Mission Editor:- a) Do I need to give the AWACS plane way points or can it just circle around a single way point? b) What way point actions should I choose? c) What is a good operating altitude and speed? I set 20,000ft 250knts but it starts out at about 6000ft and wants to RTB. d) I have set and used the Manual radio frequency indicated in the ME (251MHz). But I don't see an AWACS option in the Comms menu. What am I missing? Thanks! 1 AMD Ryzen 5 5600X | Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming OC 8GB | 64GB G.SKILL TRIDENT Z4 neo DDR4 3600Mhz | Asus B550 TUF Plus Gaming | 2TB Aorus Gen4 TM Warthog HOTAS | TrackIR 5 | Windows 10 Home x64 | My HOTAS Profiles
Ramsay Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 (edited) a) Do I need to give the AWACS plane way points or can it just circle around a single way point? • Give it 2 way points i.e. 0 (spawn ?) --> 1 --> 2. b) What way point actions should I choose? • 'AWACS -a' and 'EPLRS -a' at WP0 (spawn) - usually added automatically. • Orbit at WP1, race track - will fly to WP2 and then return to WP1, repeating the orbit until cancelled by a trigger or out of fuel. c) What is a good operating altitude and speed? I set 20,000ft 250knts but it starts out at about 6000ft and wants to RTB. • Mission/scenario dependant - I'm using 350 KGS at 25,000 ft for my training mission, set/check altitude and speed for each WP and the 'orbit' action, so they match. Note: The ME default altitude is approx. 6562 ft. d) I have set and used the Manual radio frequency indicated in the ME (251MHz). But I don't see an AWACS option in the Comms menu. What am I missing? • No idea without a .miz or .trk file. Revientor Reborn did a video covering it, you should be able to follow along without understanding Spanish. Note: his AWACS is missing EPLRS, as the tutorial pre-dates the addition of Link-16 to DCS. joey45 Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 For the radio feq it needs to be entered in the advanced (waypoint actions) The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance. GrEaSeLiTeNiN Posted March 24, 2019 Author Posted March 24, 2019 (edited) Thanks guys. I got the E-3A (and E-2D) AWACS to work with one waypoint having 3 actions (AWACS > EPLRS > Orbit). AWACS would call out contacts and I could radio AWACS and get a response. (Got to be on the right Comm radio and frequency though.) Florence201 Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 For realism, make it orbit in a racetrack, approx 350kts at circa 30000'. I regularly use these as mt settings. Just remember to check to height and speed once you set "orbit" command. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
