Tinkickef Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 (edited) Someone posted a thread on r/oculus on the merits of OLED pentile (Rift CV1) and RGB LCD screens (thanks u/fundamental curio). I think it shows why OLED panel tech is no longer the holy grail for VR it once was. LCD tech has come a long way in the last couple of years. He posted a pic, sorry if it is a well known one, I never saw it before. It shows in detail how text is clearly better defined by the RGB display. Just look at the instagram text. nrosko Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 I'm really interested in how well it works in DCS, does it help make the dusk & night gameplay look less shit or make it worse? I imagine the black smudge is better its really bad in my rift. Win 10 64//4.5g i7 Kaby Lake//gtx Titan x pascal//16gb 3200ram//Asus Maximux Hero IX//Oculus Rift//
nessuno0505 Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 If this is true maybe the LCD screen of the new rift s, althoug a bit disappointing according to resolution, could be the sweet spot between visual clarity and performance.
Harlikwin Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 Th hp reverb also uses rgb stripe screens. New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1) Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).
nrosko Posted March 24, 2019 Posted March 24, 2019 Th hp reverb also uses rgb stripe screens. I wonder how well it will run though? i guess that i would need to upgrade to a 2080ti & they are just silly ££££. cercata Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 (edited) I think it shows why OLED panel tech is no longer the holy grail for VR it once was. That comparison has nothing to do with OLED ... it's just pentile vs RGB. PSVR has an OLED RGB display, and being only 1080p on resolution is very good Edited March 25, 2019 by cercata
some1 Posted March 25, 2019 Posted March 25, 2019 Although AFAIK all other major OLED headsets use pentile. Hardware: VPForce Rhino, FSSB R3 Ultra, Virpil WarBRD, Hotas Warthog, Winwing F15EX, Slaw Rudder, GVL224 Trio Throttle, Thrustmaster MFDs, Saitek Trim wheel, Trackir 5, Quest Pro
