G.J.S Posted March 28, 2019 Posted March 28, 2019 Unable to run DCS, after login it goes to a black screen and goes no further - longest I've waited was 3 hours - no joy. Initially (same day F-14 came out) it started just after I clicked to start download of the F-14. After that module downloaded, DCS just would not start. As you can imagine, its mighty frustrating!. Shortly after this, my desktop "locked up", and the only way out of it was to reformat the PC, and reload the OS. Since that, I have re-downloaded DCS OB, and tried to run, but after the login, it shows the DCS splash screen for a few seconds, then goes to a black screen (windowed), that will remain, and go no further. Really don't know what to do to un**ck this, and really hope that someone may know what it could be that's causing it to not run, as I'm at my wits end - waited for the F-14 for a long time, then same day it comes out, DCS decides to play me around . . . . . . HELP!!??! I have attached a log that I hope will mean something to someone, I have no crash reports because DCS does not actually start.dcs.log.txt - - - The only real mystery in life is just why kamikaze pilots wore helmets? - - -

deamonesque Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 I have the same problem after my machine crashed. Ijust started a thread about that so will let you know if I find a solution. Going to try your replies fixes too. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
deamonesque Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 The lines in the log file around the error look the same as yours. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
deamonesque Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 AC5, What campaigns are there for the TF-51 that you deleted? Was it one you downloaded. There don't seem to be any loaded by default.... Thanks. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
deamonesque Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 Hi Garry, OK. hopefully good news. I found an older post here that renamed their Saved Games/DCS World folder. That regenerates the folder when you start DCS and that got mine going again. Now to copy back across as much as I can until I put in something that breaks it to figure out the problem. Hope that works for you too. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
deamonesque Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 (edited) For me it was something in the Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Config Folder that must have got corrupted. Replacing that folder fixed the problem. :smilewink: Edited March 29, 2019 by deamonesque [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
G.J.S Posted March 29, 2019 Author Posted March 29, 2019 Currently deep in work, but will be giving it a go tomorrow night for sure. Deamonesque, I’ll keep you updated on success or otherwise. Here’s hoping! - - - The only real mystery in life is just why kamikaze pilots wore helmets? - - -
deamonesque Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 (edited) Yeah. First just rename the Saved Games/DCS folder and start DCS. Then if that works, replace back in all the old folders and files in the old DCS folder except the metashaders folder(s) the config folder and the fxo folder. Then if that all works, try also replacing the input folder inside the config folder. Good luck. Edited March 29, 2019 by deamonesque [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
G.J.S Posted March 31, 2019 Author Posted March 31, 2019 No joy. After loading screen and login happen, still get black, windowed screen that will remain until I use task manager to end it. I'm at a total loss as to why. God only knows what is causing this. - - - The only real mystery in life is just why kamikaze pilots wore helmets? - - -
Mustang Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 Be sure to also give this a try if all else fails https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=230471
G.J.S Posted March 31, 2019 Author Posted March 31, 2019 Back at that ever horrible intermission called "work" right now, but Mustang, i will sure give that a go when i return in the early hours. Its getting to the point right now that i've been looking at a new desktop, even though the one that has this issue is only just a year old. It just seems to be cruel hand of god that my desktop decides to become a comedian on the same day the F-14 came out, and i had been waiting for that bird for sooooo long, lol. Will post a reply here tomorrow hopefully in the positive. Thanks for the pointer Mustang. - - - The only real mystery in life is just why kamikaze pilots wore helmets? - - -
vandroy Posted March 31, 2019 Posted March 31, 2019 (edited) Just to report that with a friend of mine renaming the folder in saved games has resolved a similar problem (Stable on a partition). It was his first DCS installation and couldn't even reach the login form. Now it seems to function. Edited March 31, 2019 by vandroy

ac5 Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 AC5, What campaigns are there for the TF-51 that you deleted? Was it one you downloaded. There don't seem to be any loaded by default.... Thanks. No idea how it got there. FACT is that I deleted it, and the problem was solved. G.J.S Posted April 4, 2019 Author Posted April 4, 2019 Well, got the new PC up and running, could do with a bit more RAM, and certainly quicker RAM, but my god, the F-14 is everything I hoped it would be, a true stick and rudder bird, which is what I truly enjoy!. I'm not diving headlong into it, I prefer the crawl/walk/run approach, but from what I've seen thus far - mighty impressed! As for the cause of my initial problem, regrettably I have no idea, so if anyone is experiencing the same, I am truly sorry, follow all suggestions that can be found in the various threads - one may work for you. But to HB, you have recreated an icon, and given it the sort of soul that needs to be mastered. And that is certainly the appeal. Be proud, & Very well done!. Now all I want is the F-4 that is due at some point, and my life is complete. 2 Icons from my timeframe, and fond memories of both, one I can fly, the other I wait for with steely determination, for the Phantom is where my heart lies. - - - The only real mystery in life is just why kamikaze pilots wore helmets? - - -
