I noticed that, with closed canopy, I can hear the groundcrew only when my ICS mic is set to hot.

That seems kinda strange to me, cause from my logical point of view, this should not affect if I can hear the groundcrew...

However, so I checked the NATOPS.

In the start up procedere, there is said that the ICS should be set at cold mic. (NAVAIR 01-F14AAP-1 - 7-11)

Also under 19-1 there is no mark that the ICS needs to be at hot mic.

So could someone clarify that please? Thx

The groundcrew has no PTT so the pilot do indeed have to set his switch to Hot Mic to be able to hear the ground crew. This does however not stop them from following your commands, you just can't hear them if you have it set to anything else.

On page 19-3 natops says:

"When pilot ICS switch is set to HOT MIC, ground personnel can communicate with the cockpit stations."

But I didnt knew that the reson was their unit didnt had a ptt :)
