Tinkickef Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 (edited) Had my first go with the cat yesterday afternoon, just learning where everything is in the cockpit basically. This morning I made a mission for it, purely as a Nevada training ground to learn to start it, learn nav systems ect. I do the jester assisted cold start and follow all the steps to the end, but when I put the wing sweep handle all the way forward, push it down into auto and close the cover, the wings retract to full sweepback and stay there, no matter what. The flag in the sweep indicator says either man or emer, depending on whether the handle is in or out. I do remember to press the reset button. I am obviously missing some step, but can't fathom what it is. Lightswitch Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 can You manually sweep the wings forward? I’m assuming that you are unable to put the wings into auto made as well. FoxTwo Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 (edited) Master reset after coming out of oversweep. Edit: Sorry I see that you said you've done that. If the wings are in auto and hydraulics are operating (engines on), you should be able to unsweep the wings. I think I know what you're doing wrong. The emergency override (hydraulic) wing control can only be operated with the handle up. Pushed down, you operate the wing sweep electronically with the hat. Put the wings in auto or push forward on the wing sweep hat. Edited April 7, 2019 by FoxTwo
Tinkickef Posted April 7, 2019 Author Posted April 7, 2019 can You manually sweep the wings forward? I’m assuming that you are unable to put the wings into auto made as well. Yes, I can manually control wing sweep, I usually bring the handle all the way forward (flaps, slats and spoilers retracted) and they will stay there. As soon as I push the handle down into auto and close the clear cover, the sweep selector indicator flag immediately travels down to the bottom of the gauge and the wing angle indicator follows it. Odd thing is when taxying, the aircraft shadow shows the wings forward, but a look back shows they are indeed all the way back. Perhaps I need to do a repair. Jester assisted start hung a few times earlier this morning. System spec: i9 9900K, Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Ultra motherboard, 32Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200 RAM, Corsair M.2 NVMe 1Tb Boot SSD. Squid_DK Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Did you on the throttle set the wingsweep to Auto? http://www.ipms.dk i7 9700K, Asus Z390 Prime A, Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 4, GeForce RTX 2080 Ti STRIX ROG, Fractal Design Define R6, Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS, MFG Crosswind, Oculus Rift S. 32 GB 3200 MHz RAM
Sergeant_Hamlet Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 As soon as I push the handle down into auto and close the clear cover, the sweep selector indicator flag immediately travels down to the bottom of the gauge and the wing angle indicator follows it. That's the part you're missing. Pushing the handle down isn't what engages auto mode. You have to select auto mode using the wing sweep coolie hat on the throttle.
Tinkickef Posted April 7, 2019 Author Posted April 7, 2019 (edited) Excellent. Thanks for the help guys. I thought pressing the lever down engaged auto sweep..... Had another look through the manual. I will have to map my China hat switch to auto and bomb mode. That's what you get for missing checks. When jester calls out the put wings in bomb mode, I've thought "dunno what that is yet, it'll be right, I'll find out how to do that later when I start learning how to deploy weapons". If I looked into it straight away, I would not be on here begging for help. Curses. Deano87 Posted April 7, 2019 Posted April 7, 2019 Had another look through the manual. I will have to map my China hat switch to auto and bomb mode. Why don’t you use the default setup which is com hat switch back/fwd for wing sweep back/forward and up/down for auto and bomb like the real thing? Tinkickef Posted April 7, 2019 Author Posted April 7, 2019 Because on all my other modules, that hat switch is used for comms and I don't want to confuse the limited muscle memory I have. :) System spec: i9 9900K, Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Ultra motherboard, 32Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200 RAM, Corsair M.2 NVMe 1Tb Boot SSD. smallberries Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Because on all my other modules, that hat switch is used for comms and I don't want to confuse the limited muscle memory I have. :) FWIW I mapped auto/bomb/fwd/back to the hat next to my slew so I could keep comms on the comm hat (and also Jester on the comms hat, up for menu, down for "check"), assuming you are using a WH.
Eldur Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Wait... there are other modules?!?! ;) I haven’t flown anything else since release  Almost like me... just flew the Hornet once since to see if the severe performance issues that DCS has since the Tomcat release are related to it which they are not.
Tinkickef Posted April 8, 2019 Author Posted April 8, 2019 Almost like me... just flew the Hornet once since to see if the severe performance issues that DCS has since the Tomcat release are related to it which they are not. I have the Tomcat training mission I made on the Nevada map. I have not used Nevada since PG came out. One thing that stands out big time is the very marked performance increase on Nevada. It really is butter smooth, even when taxying on the ground. System spec: i9 9900K, Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Ultra motherboard, 32Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200 RAM, Corsair M.2 NVMe 1Tb Boot SSD. All that glorious, glorious information right there in front of your face. It was honestly a bit overwhelming. My problem is the overwhelming amount of info I am having to learn with the F14. Every bit of new F14 info going in my right ear means a bit of F18 info falls out of my left ear. I will soon have forgotten how to fly the Hornet. My beloved Hog is almost a complete stranger to me now. :music_whistling: System spec: i9 9900K, Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Ultra motherboard, 32Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR4 3200 RAM, Corsair M.2 NVMe 1Tb Boot SSD. QuiGon Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Just to to clearify: Yes, I can manually control wing sweep, I usually bring the handle all the way forward (flaps, slats and spoilers retracted) and they will stay there. The handle is not the manual control, it is the emergency control (indicated by the emergency flag on the wingsweep indicator)! Manual control is done by pressing the wingsweep hat either forward or aft (indicated by the manual flag on the indicator). Make sure you have locked the handle down and pressed master reset before using manual mode. And then there is auto mode which has to be activated by pressing the wingsweep hat into auto position (indicated by the auto flag). So three modes in total (bomb mode is just a fixed manual position). Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
SonofEil Posted April 8, 2019 Posted April 8, 2019 Every bit of new F14 info going in my right ear means a bit of F18 info falls out of my left ear. Yeah Wag’s consistent Hornet updates now give me mild anxiety, with each one I can feel myself falling further behind! By necessity (mostly time constraints) I’m a one-plane-at-a-time DCS player, with a helicopter as my side piece. Unfortunately I’m probably done with serious Hornet play now that we have the F-14. Time will tell though. i7 7700K @5.0, 1080Ti, 32GB DDR4, HMD Odyssey, TM WH, Crosswind Rudder...
