fl0w Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 I am not sure if this has been answered already. Apologies if I spawned a new thread. But why exactly was the 2007 picked and not the 2008 or 2009?
Mars Exulte Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 The question could as easily be asked why the '08 instead of '07 or '09. They literally had to pick SOMETHING. Also fits the '08 Russo-Georgian timeline for the game. Де вороги, знайдуться козаки їх перемогти. 5800x3d * 3090 * 64gb * Reverb G2

DeathAngel1 Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 (edited) Because its the last F-16 version for which ED can make legal full-simulated virtual multirole fighter. The 2008+ versions of F-16 has many systems and sensors which are classified still and its really difficult to find free documents for them and simulate it. RaceFuel85 Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 The latest year with the most complete public info available is the 2007 F-16. After that you get into versions and info that is much more vague and sparse

That might be true in all honesty its really just software updates, a new radio and introducing more standoff weapon types after 2007. no real overhauls in sensors TBH. The F16's arent really getting major avionics updates until present, with recent the installation of 3rd LCD display in the place of analog instruments on the center panel ( which is only on some ANG F16's so far) , and a plans for AESA AN/APG83 radar in the future. These upgrades will for the most part pertain only to ANG since The more F35's come in, the more F16's are going to be retired from active duty service and handed down to ANG and reserve units. For number of years now USA F16's are behind what many exported F16C's offer, considering they never even approved funding for the APG 68 V9 radar. TacoGrease Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 So conceivably software changes alone for added functionality wouldn’t be an issue for ED? Or the opposite? One of the selling points of the DCS Viper for me has been the understanding that it would be the most modern aircraft ED could create. Maybe it will be regardless. LJQCN101 Posted May 24, 2019 Posted May 24, 2019 I guess the info for M5 tape in 2008 is by no means accessible. The only software version remains is the M4.2 tape which is the first common software for USAF CCIP jets. ref http://www.f-16.net/f-16_versions_article2.html EFM / FCS developer, Deka Ironwork Simulations.

But why exactly was the 2007 picked and not the 2008 or 2009? Wags answered that in very similar named thread in this very same page of the forums. I quote: "it all comes down to available data that we are comfortable using. As such, we must stick to a 2007 based on the very public available sources."
