Air-to-air missiles that are fired but do not hit their target fly straight through the ground and keep going. On populated servers the large amount of missiles may be causing increased network stress and desync.

 

Steps to reproduce:

 

1. Join any decently populated multiplayer server.

 

2. Take off with an air-to-air missile (issue primarily observed with AIM-120, AIM-9X/M).

 

3. Fire the missile with no target locked up or outside of WEZ.

 

4. Watch it eventually flt through the ground and keep going.

 

Not sure if this is related, but I have also seen missiles, primarily AIM-9s, flying in a straight line at cruise speed in a gentle climb high up into the sky, flying sideways with rocket motor still burning and smoke trail. My wingman observed the same missiles as I did. This might just be a desync issue caused by network stress as a result of the original bug though.

I just watched a phoenix I launched at a hostile aircraft on the GAW server. When it missed it's target and ran out of energy, it fell towards the earth. It reported 311kn and 24111ft on the missile view although there was no way the altitude was correct. Several hundred feet above the ground, the missile disappeared and the camera continued moving as if the missile was still there.

 

 

I have seen many instances of missing missile models but burning rocket motors in F6 view since the latest open beta patch. Something is seriously amiss here.

Experiencing this same missile bug on my server as well since the recent update. It seems to be quite a frame rate killer.

Have they ever acknowledged the issue? I've brought it up in the Discord server and the mods weren't even aware of this problem. This has been going on for a long time and it is surely eating into MP server and client resources and hurting everyone's performance.

This is still happening and it would be nice to get at least an acknowledgement of it, you don't actually need a very busy server, we've seen it happen with 2 clients on the server an AIM-120 will miss basically be dead but when you hit F6 to cycle weapons it'll still be alive under ground etc going along, or Phoenix will bounce up into orbit.

 

It's like the sims 'Garbage' collection didn't collect the missile when it went 'dead', as I've not seen it happen with any missiles that actually HIT something, only those which have missed etc and even then it seems to be very hit and miss on when it triggers.. as you can fire 10 and not have it happen at all or you could fire 2 and it happen both times.

I think those same anomalies are causing ghost radar blips, as well. I've chased a few blips that are moving toward me. I can't get a lock on them, and they fly right past my AC without a visual, and continue flying in a straight line. Very frustrating.
