Goose342 Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 I have a question to the Windows mixed reality guru's I'm thinking about buying hp reverb, but I have the standalone version of dcs and from what I can see is that everything is ran through steamvr. Can you run through a desktop on cliffhouse to get it working or am I missing something? Thanks for any help.
Eaglewings Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 You would need to run it through steam vr for now pending when dcs get their native vr support application. Steam is the only interface AFAIK. Thick8 Posted June 22, 2019 Posted June 22, 2019 You don’t have to have Steam running if you don’t want to. Install Steam, the SteamVR program, and Steam WindowsVR. DCS will start directly from the desktop in the Cliff House. Goose342 Posted June 23, 2019 Author Posted June 23, 2019 Thank you very much. I was about to cancel my reverb order and pick up the rift s. But if you say it will work that will be awesome.

hansangb Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 How is this possible.. I have tried running just steam VR and it always opens steam.. It doesn't on mine. It didn't do it with Pimax5K+ Either. I just start SteamVR manually, and everyone works. The Steam client GUI doesn't run. I never checked with Process Explorer, but it's probably hanging out in memory. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

Manilva Posted June 23, 2019 Posted June 23, 2019 I am pretty sure you don’t need to start Steam, nor SteamVR, nor Steam VR for WMR; but you need to have the three installed. When you start DCS from the cliff house, automatically Steam starts what is needed and after a little wait the DCS menu comes... Regards

Regards That's all true, but you really don't even need to be in the cliff house. I just start DCS, put the Reverb on, and the cliff house starts automatically. It shows for a couple of seconds, then the screen goes black with kind of an exploding pattern of white triangles. After that, SteamVR starts, and DCS comes up in VR. Goose342 Posted June 23, 2019 Author Posted June 23, 2019 You guys are awesome. My buddy has oculus rift s and he starts up dcs by double clicking dcs icon, puts rift s on and it works. Me buying into WMR with reverb had me scared. But it sounds like it starts up the same way. I see there is not a lot of wmr titles on steamvr but the games that are not supported I'm guessing those games would work also.
Nightstorm Posted June 24, 2019 Posted June 24, 2019 (edited) So for clarification, do you have to run the STEAM version of DCS with a Reverb? Or can you just run the stand alone install? I presently use the stand alone open beta and stable versions with a Rift S but I just ordered a Reverb. Will I have to switch to the Steam version? Thanks, *EDIT* Other WMR posts indicate that you can indeed use the stand alone version of DCS and that you just need the Steam VR application installed along with Windows 10 WMR portal that's already in the newer versions. It also seems that you can just start DCS per usual methods and it will come up in VR. Edited June 24, 2019 by Nightstorm
