SkipCarey Posted July 7, 2019 Author Posted July 7, 2019 I appreciate your response, that thread doesnt help with the current state of the pimax as it iinstalls and runs DCS, most posters on the thread use steam vr which is exactly what I want to avoid since all of my modules are stand alone DCS and I will NOT repurchase steam versions. Im not happy with valves ridiculous 4 month wait for the index either.from what ive got from that thread is that the pimax is not as sharp visually and a PITA to setup and get running.I would love to hear from current pimax owners about their recent experiences with it and DCS.
Svsmokey Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 (edited) No worrries . When you download Steam , it includes the SteamVR app . You can run ONLY that app , and WITH standalone versions of DCS . Further , i think SteamVR is required for standalone games using a Pimax . Battis Posted July 7, 2019 Posted July 7, 2019 You can run DCS with Pimax 5K+ without steamvr. Furthermore, if you choose to run it with steamvr, you don’t need steam versions of your modules. i9-9900K 4,9Ghz, 2080ti, 32Gb, 1Gb m.2, Index, WinWing throttle, Baur BRD-N, Crosswind pedals, Orbwiever and tm mfd`s, all in a Hornet simpit.
hansangb Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 Is pimax 5k+ viable in DCS or a PIA? and not worth the hassle..... It is viable. The but performance isn't *that* great. I haven't tested the latest PiTool, but the one before it (the one I'm using) gave me about 30-40 FPS. Maybe a bit higher. But with each iteration, the performance has improved. I'm used to VR so the fact that it can be a bit jittery was OK. Not a deal breaker. If you're new to VR, it could very well be a deal breaker. I do like the wider FOV though. But I don't know if it's worth the much higher cost. Not with Rift S and Reverb. P5K+ does have much improved clarity over the original Rift. Quite a bit more. But Reverb is more clear. Although it doesn't have the wider FoV as P5K+. Also, remember that you need a lighthouse base for tracking. One Lighthoouse V1 from ebay will do fine for DCS use. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

Hodosy Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 guys !! i have maximum 38 FPS in the VR... I got the MSI Z390 MB, I9-9900K, 16GB of ram, Samsung 950 pro ssd, Msi gtx 1080 x2 SLI... how i can improve with the pimax 5k?
hansangb Posted July 8, 2019 Posted July 8, 2019 is that the vive lighthouses? That's exactly right. You don't need the gen2 version. First version (around $70-$85) on Ebay is all you need. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

You should try turning off shadows and PD to 1 as a start. But you would need to post your SteamVR settings (how much you're scaling), your PiTools settings, and ingame DCS settings. hsb HW Spec in Spoiler --- i7-10700K Direct-To-Die/OC'ed to 5.1GHz, MSI Z490 MB, 32GB DDR4 3200MHz, EVGA 2080 Ti FTW3, NVMe+SSD, Win 10 x64 Pro, MFG, Warthog, TM MFDs, Komodo Huey set, Rverbe G1

DCS does not support SLI . so you are trying to run your Pimax on a single 1080 . Not enough GPU to push all those pixels... 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
SneakyBastd Posted July 9, 2019 Posted July 9, 2019 Hodosy, make sure you overclock your CPU to 5ghz. I'd sell the 1080s and buy a single 1080Ti or faster. That alone should see your minimum framerate stay above 40fps. Then you can select 72hz for consistently smooth motion smoothing. Use the latest beta pitool. Otherwise you can only play with graphics settings. Set fov to normal (middle option). Turn off MSAA if you have it, the 1080 isn't fast enough for that. View distance to medium, shadows off, other options low. You can leave textures on high. See how that goes for you. And pray ED can sort out this VR improvement. I'm not hopeful anymore but you never know. 7700K@5Ghz, 32GB 3600 CL16, 3080.
