[REPORTED]Objects dissapear near the FOV border

Recommended Posts

Seems to be a problem managing the VR object deletion near the FOV border. As can see in this video, boats, clouds, missiles, etc. dissapear near the eye border.

Also the plane contrail (at 11 from cockpit) dissapear, but unlike the first example, this is only when is near to field vision center and it is tiggered without VR.

This video show it: https://streamable.com/fcruq

The track is attached, but the view possition in the replay is not the same than the original and the first issue only triggers on VR.

P.S. I have a pimax 5k+ without reprojection and masking enabled and i only have this problem in DCS 2.5.5.33184

The same problem is present for me aswell in a Rift CV1.

It happens in IL-2 also!

Most likely the issue is been effected by enabling ´mask hidden area´ in Pitool.

With the former Pitool versions the Pitool settings could have switched, when restarting, but with the newer Pitool beta 144, the Pitool settings could be saved.

Another reason could be, if you have set in DCS´ Graphics.lua

stereo_mode_use_shared_parser = true

It is set to false by default, if set to true , there is a render issue on the left eye with my Pimax, but it is more massive, than seen in the video above.

It is unlikely, but maybe it is caused by wrong IPD setting in DCS. Formerly I used to have set a very low IPD setting in DCS to have the world scale larger, but after reading some comments here about it, I´ve reset the IPD in DCS to my regular IPD of 63, similar to the IPD setting with the Pimax and the always observable flickering clouds are no longer present with the right IPD setting.

...I guess it´s the mask thing in Pitool

Default IPD in DCS for me with the Pimax 5K XR, I also get the objects, clouds, etc clipping in and out in one or the other eye depending on rotation of my view at longer ranges. It’s especially noticeable in the far distance and is disconcerting only seeing objects in one eye in VR.

I also get this without using VR, especially when zoomed in a long way in external views. It just seems like the clipping frustum is not set correctly. I'm running at 1920x1200 res.

Confirmed! I was wrong with claiming, that the flickering clouds are completely gone with correct IPD setting. Still there at a certain distance, but with a bigger world scale due to lowered IPD setting in DCS, there are too flickering clouds at a closer range.

@Magnatilla: Really? Even without VR? So far I thought it was a VR related issue, specifically with the canted displays in the Pimax ...

Seems that way, I'm not at my machine currently but I can take a short video and post later if needed. Also I use a CV1 and it happens there too. I did see a Pimax video where the clouds disappear much more towards the center of the screen than the pylons do for me.

It's most noticeable at high zoom, the race course tower pylon things disappear early on the left and bottom of the screen as the camera tracks a moving aircraft.

But when the issue appears as well on the monitor, it seems to be related on the graphics engine.

Technically for the game it is not so much an issue, but when I fly in my MiG in the sunset over the mountains and deserts in Nevada in VR, I really live that moment while watching this honey clouded sky melting with the night ... as long as no flickering cloud appear.

Yep I get what you're saying, it's no biggie for me, just thought it might be relevant.

I think you're maybe on the right lines with the stereo_mode_use_shared_parser = true bit as well, probably the clipping is only worked out for one eye but gets used for both?

Yes, when set stereo_mode_use_shared_parser = true the clipping only appears on the left eye at the outer edge. There the whole ground textures are affected and disappear completely, so that the underlaying water textures get visible.

But different from the cloud clipping issue, which takes place in the center area of view, the clipping with set stereo_mode_use_shared_parser = true appears in a approximate 15-20% area on the left outer edge.

Bumping... This is really frustrating me lately with the clouds. It just makes you feel off and it gives me eye strain as I can’t stop myself from “looking” at the anomalous clouds as they pop in and out in the one or other eye in the far distance. It that bad that I have to either edit clouds out of the mission, or stop flying after 20 minutes or risk headaches... I only get this effect in DCS, Il-2, P3D and many other games don’t have this issue.

I did some further tests with this, and it's really odd behaviour with the clouds specifically.

Long-distance clouds are visible in the dead centre if I centre the cloud in my field of view, and it is also visible in the extreme edges of my field of view, but anywhere else, the long-distance clouds disappear...

Excuse the rudimentary drawing, but this is a visual representation of where I can see a cloud at long range in the far distance as I turn my head, it will be visible only at these 3 angles...
