It’s better then the version of LITENING we have in game, for lots of reasons. Chief among them is: it’s rated for CATOBAR operations. LITENING is not.

 

CATOBAR certification is certainly pertinent IRL , but not necessarily in DCS .

Some of us appreciate DCS specifically for realism. I want the pod the jet used IRL during its career in the USN. Since that’s what ED sold to us.

Agreed , but in the interim , the Litening will have to do .

I think I remember reading once, that ATFLIR has a higher zoom and resolution than litening. Supposed to be better suited to the higher speeds and altitudes of hornet compared to the design spec of litening.

It also has integrated NAVFLIR.

yea better magnification. IRRC it gets get 3 FOV modes as opposed to two on Lightening 2 AT, and from what i read the laser designation goes further out.

 

Resolution wise i think they are around the same. Although if ED had extended the timeline just 3 years ( or just 1 year from the viper) further from 2005-2008, that would have meant the more modern Litening 2 G4 for the Hornet which in turn has improved resolution from its predecessor:1024 x1024 and thus also better than the ATFLIR
