Timed HOTAS functions activate only on button release

Recommended Posts

I noticed that some HOTAS functions which require the pilot to hold a button for ~1 second will activate only on button release (if the button has been held down long enough). I would expect them to activate as soon as 1 second passes, while the button is still pressed.

The ones I noticed are:

1. HMD LACQ activation (hold Sensor Control Switch forward)

2. TGP FLIR/CCD toggle (hold FOV button)

The current implementation makes it easy to activate the wrong function, unless the pilot is counting "Mississippis" in his head. So I doubt it's implemented like that in the real aircraft.

Right now it's like this:

Button pressed ----------> 1 second passed ----------> Button released & Function Activated

Should be like this:

Button pressed ----------> 1 second passed & Function Activated ----------> Button released

I agree!

Actually I was just coming here to write about the same topic.

The period is 0.8 seconds, but it's easy to accidentally hold for too short when concentrating on other things in a busy situation.

If that is how it really works then fine (but bad design!), otherwise it would be nice to have it fixed.

TGP FLIR/CCD toggle has been fixed, but HMD LACQ activation (hold Sensor Control Switch forward) is still bad.
