Sir Gus Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 Hello, First i would like to say that i like how the Hornet has evolved after 1 year+. Now on subject, I have noticed that every AIM 120 missile i have fired, misses the target 90%. I have been to many servers and the same thing happens. Today i was about 4-5 clicks away from an F14,I fired 6 missiles in total and every single one missed. With an F-15c i have no problem hitting enemies with AIM 120s but in Hornet is a pain. Thats not realistic, even if you count that F-14's Phoenix missiles, usually hit the target 80%,which is very OP. Plz investigate this. Thank you.
Nooch Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 That's a valid concern but it's really not Hornet specific. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Sir Gus Posted August 10, 2019 Author Posted August 10, 2019 That's a valid concern but it's really not Hornet specific. Why?It's about the missiles that Hornet carry... If it was universal, the F-15c would have the same problem.

As far as I know, missile performance is based on a .lua file independant of the aircraft you are launching from. So there shouldn't be any difference between the F-15C's aim-120 and the F/A-18's aim-120. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Silversmith Posted August 10, 2019 Posted August 10, 2019 As far as I know, missile performance is based on a .lua file independant of the aircraft you are launching from. So there shouldn't be any difference between the F-15C's aim-120 and the F/A-18's aim-120. Not convinced of that. The 'same' missile fired from a different plane can behave very differently. For the Aim 120/Hornet pairing of course it may not actually be the missile in this case, possibly its the radar that is the problem. I would point out one very obvious 'same missile different performamce' effect (that takes radar out of the mix). Fire an Aim 9m sidewinder without a radar lock from a hornet at a SU25 target and it will probably take at least 2 hits to kill. Fire the same missile from a F14B and 1 hit totally evaporates the same target. Even more obvious when the target is a larger aircraft such as a fencer when the Aim 9m from the F14 still kills with one hit every time.
lester Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 (edited) There were complaints about AIM-120 performance in general after recent OB updates. Also Chizh confirmed on Russian part of the forum that optimizations of the AIM-120 guidance method had been made that came with the recent OB updates and that they depend on a distance from target. nighthawk2174 Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 I believe he is talking about the APN coefs added quite some time ago but I can't be certain.
AleCisla Posted August 11, 2019 Posted August 11, 2019 I have a few problems with AIM-120C too, sometimes they don't work as intended, losing lock very easily and making the square where the enemy is locked, to blink on and off.... and when using them, the radar elevation get stuck and I can't change the elevation at all.. :(
Svend_Dellepude Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 You need to conduct the same test in SP and see how it turns out. MP have issues, but that might be related to the systems in the F-18, and the nature of MP(pings, etc.), rather than the 120. AFAIK there is only one version of each missile that is used across all ED product A/C. 3rd party A/C is a different story. I do however agree with you that it is very difficult to score a hit with the 120 in MP, driving the Hornet.
