Ok so the internet is full of people saying how great the text clarity is in the new Oculus Rift S. Is there a setting other than physically moving the headset around?

Also how the heck do you know when your IPD I don't know what I am supposed to be looking for.

You can measure your own IPD in several ways. Mirror and ruler, is easy but not super accurate. There are also some cell phone apps that can do it with a known sized object and a picture of your eyeballs. Or you can get your eye doctor to do it. OR you can just futz with the setting and see whats most clear for you.

Here is a twist for you just called my optometrist office where I got my glasses and asked for my PD (pupil distance) and they gave my my number for reading AND distance which are different. Which does Oculus Rift S have a setting for?

Odd - I always thought IPD was the distance between the center of each eyeball.

Not sure how that could change?

When you read your eyes move inwards towards your nose and therefore the pupils are closer together and the measurement is shorter than when looking to infinity when the pupils are generally centered.

Also, each eye can be different when measured to the center of the nose. This is normal for different people.

So if IPD is constantly changing then how much does one's IPD really matter?

Ah never mind I might be getting a headache LOL.

I just got a Rift S and revisited DCS VR, The last time I tried it was with the original rift and I found it unusable. Happy to say I find it totally usable now. A downside is I could never imagine going back to Trackir on a monitor again. Most text is very readable for me, Probably the worst for readability is the Color center display in the hornet, it just looks pretty awful in general.

I have my IPD from the optometrist which worked great. I find for myself at least the tilt of the headset was a large factor in text readability and overall comfort, use without eyestrain. I ended up deciding on a sweet spot where it actually feels a little bit weird how high the headband sits on my head. If I sink the strap down to the point it feels more natural like wearing a hat then it's blurry and causes eyestrain. I would assume this is going to vary greatly based on head shape. But anyway, play with the tilt.

Aside from that I also have some prescription lenses on order to try, because I hate fighting with glasses while using it. So I guess I will see how that works out. I got lenses made that way for my FPV goggles and they are fantastic, so hoping it is a similar experience.

Did you try the DebugTool supersampling as I explained in Rift S topic ?

1.5 makes a world of difference.

I also use 1.5 from the game menu, it's a pretty huge improvement. Is using the debug tool an improvement in some way over just using the game menu?

No, just use or the other. I use the Pixel Density in the game settings myself.

I only use Oculus SS for games that do not have this setting.
