Do you (everyone) know the documentary 'Jetstream'?

It's 8x45min. documentary about the CF-18 pilots. I found this very interesting.

This sounds weird:

The jet, which belonged to the Turkish Air Force’s celebrated aerobatic team, “Türk Yıldızları” (Turkish Stars), crashed around midday at a site of the Turkish Engine Industry and Trade Corporation (TÜMOSAN) factory, roughly 2,000 kilometers from its take-off point.

2,000km?! I believe they meant 2 km 'cause:

“I watched the four fighter planes take off and I was taking photographs. Two planes separated from the rest and then suddenly one started falling.”

3/12/2012 - A CV-22 Osprey, flown by the 8th Special Operations Squadron, hangs in the anechoic chamber at the Joint Preflight Integration of Munitions and Electronic Systems hangar March 6 at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. The Osprey is currently in the chamber for approximately four weeks to test upgraded electronic warfare systems. The J-PRIMES anechoic chamber is a room designed to stop internal reflections of electromagnetic waves, as well as insulate from exterior sources of electromagnetic noise. J-PRIMES provides this environment to facilitate testing air-to-air and air-to-surface munitions and electronics systems on full-scale aircraft and land vehicles prior to open air testing. News here in Norway are reporting that a C-130-J with 5 souls on board is missing after a flight from Evenes to Kiruna. The weather in the area is bad, and the ATC lost contact with it a few hours ago.

Will update as news comes in.

First Flight for Last Raptor.

The final Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor took to the skies for its first test flight in Marietta, Ga., on March 14, 2012, with company test pilot, Bret Luedke at the controls. Raptor 4195 has a May delivery date and will join other F-22s in the U.S. Air Force’s 3rd Wing at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

To add: the plane was taking part in Cold Response 2012, a NATO/PfP exercise simulating a multinational UN peace enforcement operation. (That is, with active combat as opposed to PeaceKeeping missions.) The area where contact was lost has very little communications as far as roads go and the weather is horrible both as far as visibility and turbulence. Swedish, Norwegian and Danish assets are taking part in the search.

There have been reports of emergency transmissions, but no-one has been able to confirm this right now.

Previous reports of a confirmed crash has been withdrawn, as EtherealN has said below.

The Norwegian Minister of Defence has announced a press-conference in 30 minutes (2100 CET).

(Swedish search and rescue)

The latest update:

"Det har framkommit uppgifter i norsk media om de 5 besättningsmännen skulle vara funna och omkomna. DETTA ÄR FELAKTIGT. Vi har varit i kontakt med Norge och även fått dementi därifrån."

Translation

"There have been information in norwegian media saying that the 5 crew are found and deceased. THIS IS ERRONEOUS. We have been in contact with norway and received denials from there."

EDIT: Apparently the release of news that they were found dead was a classic case of the statement being prepared "just in case" so that it would be ready if needed, and someone publishing it by mistake.

EDIT2: Another update (slightly older) on the Search and Rescue site states that Norwegian F-16's that are taking part in the search have found heat sources in the terrain and these are being investigated. It's unknown if these sources are related to the missing plane, animals, treckers etcetera.

Very cool Vekkinho! The Su-27 sure is a nice jet. I wish I could visit an airshow this summer with the Russian Knights as one of the attractions.

Not much new, except that previously found heat sources have turned up nothing. There are additional search assets coming in from the UK and USA to assist. The helicopters have been mostly unable to fly due to the weather conditions, which are quoted as going as low as 5 metre visibilty.

This is the area currently being suspected as a crash site, based on radar data. Photo taken last summer. (Area around Mt. Kebnekaise, highest peak in Sweden.)
