Airway Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 Speaking of oceans... Now just convince Dmut to implement that :P You know the date, the video was put online? 1. April 2009 ;)
Alfa Posted May 19, 2009 Posted May 19, 2009 It was interesting to see them strap the Su-33 down on the elevator before lifting it up to the flight deck. Is this how US/UK/France does it? For some reason I never imagined them doing it this way. Hehe yeah they do - anything else would be a little hazardous :) . Aircraft are strapped down just when parked on the deck - here are a couple of close-ups showing the chain arrangement.. Alfa Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) Speaking of oceans... Nice! :) Now just convince Dmut to implement that :P Hehe yeah :D . But I wouldn't think the dynamic sea itself is the problem since Lock-on already has this(although not a nice as in the above video). The problem is with the "sea state", because if you have bigger waves, you would also need to have ships react to this.....i.e. requiring a sort of AFM(in this case "Advanced Floatation Model") for ships and also getting things like bow-spray and wake looking realistic :) . Vekkinho Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 Perhaps in some future Silent Hunter but no need for such seas in FCS (IMHO)! [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
RedTiger Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 But I wouldn't think the dynamic sea itself is the problem since Lock-on already has this(although not a nice as in the above video). What about how the water works in IL2 for carriers? I always thought that provided just enough pitching and rolling to make things dicey enough, but it wasn't anywhere near as realistic as an Advanced Flotation Model. I know ED's all about The Realism these days, but the water in LOMAC/Black Shark is so unrealistic, anything would be better. Probably no point though unless a carrier-based aircraft will be simulated.
DarkWanderer Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 You know the date, the video was put online? 1. April 2009 ;) The technology itself appeared on public in 2007. It's "good old" CUDA, and if I understood right, there's quite little overhead of using it except additional GPU load. As for "no need" - If ED ever receives a tender to develop a carrier craft sim, this will add very much to the visuals. EDIT: RedTiger saying the same. There's little hope to see it in the next modules, however. But we're going OT. You want the best? Here i am...
Alfa Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 What about how the water works in IL2 for carriers? I always thought that provided just enough pitching and rolling to make things dicey enough, but it wasn't anywhere near as realistic as an Advanced Flotation Model. Well I couldn't say - I was never into prop sims, so... :D . Anyway, by "AFM" I simply meant physics simulating the motions of ships in particular sea states. But even with a fixed state(i.e. not dependant on whether settings) e.g. like the one depicted in the demo DarkWanderer posted, you would still need to do something with the physics of ships in order to make it look right. I know ED's all about The Realism these days, but the water in LOMAC/Black Shark is so unrealistic, anything would be better. Probably no point though unless a carrier-based aircraft will be simulated. I don't know mate - carrier based aircraft or not, a more realistic dynamic sea/ship physics would IMO be more important for the 3D world of a new engine than something like speedtrees or grass reacting to helicopter rotor downwash...and quite possibly less problematic in terms of game performance. Airway Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Oh, that already was Cuda technology? Didn't know. Today they perform MMP tech demos with 1024 planes in airspace.
RedTiger Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 Well I couldn't say - I was never into prop sims, so... :D . You should try to find a video of it and check it out. As much as I complain about IL2's AI, it's startling sometimes how much is got "right" (flight models being the biggie) compared to LOMAC if you go soley on release alone. Yeah, I know this probably isn't totally fair since LOMAC is using Flanker code, which is much older than even IL2.
Shaman Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I always wondered how it would be flying over the sea, low, when water is not entirely flat, but actually quite non-uniform surface... especially at night, and high winds and open sea ;) 51PVO Founding member (DEC2007-) 100KIAP Founding member (DEC2018-) :: Shaman aka [100☭] Shamansky tail# 44 or 444 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] 100KIAP Regiment Early Warning & Control officer
sniffer Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Shaman: It would be surfing - not flying :) Well known, but it shows what You talk about: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
Boberro Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Hope in DCS we will see not only flat sea even when there is set in ME the strongest available storm ever in game :) Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
sniffer Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Dynamic weather - Dynamic seas... Yea and only few FPS... but hope in today's hardware :smilewink: IMHO better watter = lower fps :noexpression: 1 [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
