topol-m Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Just a little comparison: Browning .50 cal machine gun : MG-42 machine gun :shocking:: [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
mvsgas Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) .50 call was definitely slower but a lot! more powerful. I think this is a better comparison. 8VDxAv3--RY&feature Tl9ref2i_6w&feature Edited February 22, 2011 by mvsgas To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. topol-m Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) Yeah pretty much, bigger bullet means a lot more energy, the thing is though if you`re firing at people 7.92 mm is more than enough especially with that fire rate :) I watched a documentary the other day on History channel or Discovery I don`t recall... there was that american WW2 veteran who made that colorful comparison. It was something like that: (D-Day, Omacha beach) "We had never heard german machine gun before, american MGs sounded like ta-ta-ta-ta-ta. German maching gun had this sound: trrrrrrr, trrrrrrrrrrrrrrr." :) Edited February 22, 2011 by topol-m [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
mvsgas Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 (edited) The firing rate is insane, but you can use a MG-42 like a long range sniper system like Carlos Hathcock did in Vietnam. The german RIA Novosti website and Euronews are reporting that a Su-22 crashed near Benghazi both pilots ejected safely. Euronews even says that they ejected after refusing to bomb Benghazi whilst RIAN says "it went down after the pilots refused bombing Benghazi" which could mean that they were shot down... but I couldn't find something precise until now... VBARhino, We didn't just go "hawg " wild, we have been for some time now :D tusler, Man I would hater being a marshaller in the Navy, I don't know how navy aviators are, but USAF pilots never listen nor do what you tell them. I gave a pilot the hot brake hand signal one they and he didn't even know that it meant. I had to hook comms to get him to taxi to hot brake pad.
