Almost complete beginnner to the ME, so be gentle please

I was trying to get runway lights going at night in the Caucasus map. I read that it would not work unless an aircraft took off from that field.

So I set a trigger zone and spawned an A-10 that would fly an orbit for an hour then return. In the meantime my own aircraft could land on the now lit runway. Worked fine when running the mission on my local machine, but when the same mission was transferred to my web server, it didn't and the runway remained dark.

Second try was to enable a tanker or AWACs at mission start to do a similar thing. When transferred to the web server the tanker/AWACs could be seen departing but the runway remained dark.

Am I just fighting gravity here or is there a way to switch on the lights in a server based mission?

If the Caucaus is a No No & can't be done does anybody know if the lighting works on one of the other maps. Bit frustrating that I cannot make simple missions to fly at night and/or bad weather and get the airport to turn on its lights :helpsmilie:

I lnow recently that with mulitplayer, my mate had to contact the stennis via atc menu and ask to land before the ship would light up the deck.

Maybe the same with the airfields?

That you also need to activate through the atc menu?

Juat a thought

You need to radio the airfield and request approach.

Wait for the radio reply from the airfield. Once the approval comes, then the runway lights will be turned on.

Thanks for the replies

The reason for asking was because it's an odball, this is using the DCS Web server, which is loaded to another machine

I've tried this mission on my local machine, running it as a server and the lights are turned on and all is good

On both machines I contact the tower and get permissions

Copy the mission over to the web server and run it repeating exactly the same actions then the runway lights do not come on. So there is something amiss. It's not the mission as it works fine on my local machine

It's something to do with the web server that prevents the lights from going on

There's a lot of things that work flawlessly in single player, may or may not work with a client based server, and will not work at all with the dedicated server.

I can't tell you how many times I've spent countless hours writing/debugging/testing something in SP, get it working perfect.... Only to have it not work at all in Multiplayer. Very frustrating.

Wayz Out

Thanks A101Wayz

Yeah it works when using the local machine as a client server but not on the dedicated server, at least now I know it's not me

The runway lighting at least works on the PG map yet to try Nevada

Bump.... I am having this problem also. I see other multiplayer servers that DO have it working at night... and my mission works in single player.... but I see no setting for it.... contacting ATC does not bring the lights on. It appears that SOMEONE knows how to make it work for other mutliplayer servers.... This post has tons of views and still no answers... DCS's best kept secret?

Might be a dedicated server issue?

I tried it two weeks ago on a dedicated server (Blue Flag PG, which is a dedicated server AFAIK) and the runway did not light up.

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
