DD_Fenrir Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 I routinely wait till 10 miles and under if I want a Sparrow to kill an evading target - any range over that is a distracting/get the enemy defensive shot.
captain_dalan Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 Was the first that the AIM-7MH was coming to the Tomcat? Because that has excited me more than anything else... playing with it now and the 2xAIM-9M and 6xAIM-7MH has been a HUGE amount of fun! Whiskey11 Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 It's waaay too far unless both of you were high alt, high speed hot. Afaik MH doesn't add much to M beside lofting. The MH has performed significantly better for me than the standard M has in terms of guidance and ramming them down MiG 28's, MiG 21's and MiG 23's on Through the Inferno (AI aircraft)... the- M, even at sub 5nmi range was a roll of the dice if it'd track even if Jester didn't lose the lock. The -MH has been VERY reliable... of the 2-6 loadout I had when just messing around last night, 4 of the 6 -MH's found targets and both AIM9M's found theirs, although the MiG 28 survived it somehow and I had to switch to guns to finish him. It was far more productive than my usual 2 of 6 -M's and both 9's finding targets. Launch envelope remains unchanged... heads up about 15nmi at 30k feet. Rocket motor usually dies about 2-3 seconds before impact. The M's just seem to drop the radar beam so much easier than the MH. I'm also not sure the MH lofts all that much on the F-14, if at all... it has to be specifically set to loft on the Hornet... not sure if the F-14 has that ability or not. Either way, even the "fixed" -M seems really poor compared to the -MH. As for the more "feisty" targets like the Su's and MiG 29's... I generally let the horde of SPAMRAMMERS and YEET-54 launchers deal with them! I hunt for sport and the YEET-54 is like an easy button right now for nuking 4th Gen fighters. With the MH, I may get crafty and start going after the harder targets (if I can get to them before they get shot down). IronMike Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 None of our AIM7s loft, we disable it, as we have no indication/ reliable proof that they lofted and our SMEs used mainly AIM7Fs or Es. So we have no data indicating that the aim7s lofted in the F14.
