Woody01 Posted November 20, 2019 Posted November 20, 2019 (edited) If you're in the Australasian region/timezone and are looking for a group who regularly fly together TFK could be a fit for you. The Flying Kiwis have been flying together for the last 19+ years and moved from IL-2 to DCS a couple of years ago. We cater to most aircraft types and are big on carrier operations, we use all maps and always fly new and different missions. The main nights we fly are 'Choppa Tuesday', helicopter training on obviously Tuesday, often with fixed wing support, Thursday is our 'training night' consisting of carrier work, Case 1 & 3 practice, formation, refueling and weapons employment, we will also give the F16 a good crack on Thursdays, but most types are available. Sunday is our main mission night where we fly together as a team to accomplish the mission in a huge array of different mission scenarios and contexts. All flight nights commence at 20:00NZT. While we do have some very talented pilots flying with us, if your at the beginning of your DCS flight simming adventure don't be shy to join in. I have always firmly believed the best way to learn is to jump in with guys that know what they are doing, everyone is very approachable, patient and happy to help and offer any experience they may have that will put you on the path to success. Jump on our Discord channel where most of the action takes place- https://discord.gg/QjPd5pM See you in the skies! Edited June 29, 2024 by Woody01 The Flying Kiwis - Since ages ago... Woody01 Posted November 25, 2019 Author Posted November 25, 2019 A few months ago but a great video that show us warts 'n' all, heaps of choice Kiwi phrases like "Shit a brick!", "Noice" and heaps of other barely decipherable solid Kiwi chat. Woody01 Posted December 10, 2019 Author Posted December 10, 2019 Choppa Tuesday tonight if anyone in the Australasian region is keen on a bit of whirly bird action! A very cool mission inserting troops into a beachhead to support invading MEU amphibious APC's then taking over the airfield nearby. Action packed with both choppas and fixed wing CAS support. We are trialing running a super sick server out of a Sydney data center atm so if you search by ping it may have moved either up or down in the list depending on what side of the ditch you are on. Discord details in the mission briefing so if you want to jump on the server do try to join us on comms at least so you can hear what going down at that time. Server up from 20:00NZT. The Flying Kiwis - Since ages ago... Find us at https://www.simcentral.co.nz
Woody01 Posted January 5, 2020 Author Posted January 5, 2020 Back into it for the new year, we never stop over the holidays but its a good chance to take it easy, for the regulars to go on holiday and a good chance to test out new map concepts and techniques and for some reason the holiday period always brings out new people and brings back some friends of old which is great! It looks like 2020 will be a massive year for TFK, so if your in Australasia and looking for something a little more personally rewarding than what I find most of the public servers can give me, although you will still find me on various servers from time to time its nowhere near as rewarding as flying with a bunch of mates in new and different missions and you quickly become a 'mate' but jumping in and doing your bit in the mission. You don't need to be an exceptional DCS pilot, we have plenty of talented guys that can help get you up to speed in most areas of most modules, but if you are a shit hot DCS pilot you will I am sure find flying with TFK refreshing to say the least. We have great banter, a great comradery and we get the job done, generally, often in very challenging circumstances. So don't be shy, if your green as or hot as hot shit you will be able to find a place where you fit with us. Unless your a dick, but it has always been a self moderating group so its all good. Our main nights are Tuesday (Choppa Tuesday, with dedicated fixed wing support, but they are primarily choppa missions at heart), Thursday is our general training night, we normally start off with Banklers Case 1 recovery trainer (modified for our down under needs) Thanks Bankler! And Lex! and Sunday is our 'war faces on' mission night. Always a new mission and it could be on any DCS map, WW2 asset pack included. We are trying to fit a dedicated warbird night into our schedule and I will let you know when we have some progress on that, Warbird Wednesday is penciled in but not locked in yet. We may look at a first Wednesday in every month sort of deal, WIP. So come and have a fly with us if you like, if your a decent sort of fella with a good sense of humour you will fit right in no matter your skill level green or white hot. FA18. F16, AV8BN/A, F14, Mirage, F5E, UH-1H, JF17, A10C, CA accommodated for in all main missions, others at request or that I have forgotten. 2020, woohoooo! :D The Flying Kiwis - Since ages ago... Gibstaz Posted January 8, 2020 Posted January 8, 2020 G'day Thread & team, I'm Dave & am from Melbourne down over the sea from you. I'm writing to you guys because your invitation stood afar out & also I am funnily enough from that neck of the woods. I started purchasing DCS simulator games because it looked amazing. And I would have loved to be a pilot as a kid. I very rarely play it now cause I am having major issues just trying to set up the controller . I know DiddlySquat about computers or how to use them properly. I was wondering if one Day I'd be allowed to watch you guys do what you enjoy ?? Then that will push me to getting my arse into gear & fixing it. Anyway thanks for your time & hope to hear from you one day maybe ? ????Cheers ????????
Woody01 Posted January 9, 2020 Author Posted January 9, 2020 Hey Dave, no worries man, we can even help you with your controller issues Im sure. They can be a bit of a nightmare to get setup initially but once they are set your good to go. There are heaps of guys with a ton of knowledge so between us I am sure we can get you sorted. Our main nights are Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday but once you jump on the Discord channel that will open up our community in real time to you, lots of banter and ribbing, sharing of cool stuff and weekly updates as to what we are up too. You will find the discord channel here: https://discord.gg/NH7dvQ If you don't have Discord you will find the download here: https://discordapp.com/download Hope to see you soon, Thursdays we normally do a bit of practice from Case 1 Carrier landings to formation and tactical formation to weapons training etc... So that could be a good time to dip your toes into the TFK environment. The Flying Kiwis - Since ages ago... Find us at https://www.simcentral.co.nz

Woody01 Posted January 13, 2020 Author Posted January 13, 2020 No worries ignition22, hit us up when you get back. Rhino1980 Posted January 31, 2020 Posted January 31, 2020 (edited) We have two of our own liveries that we use currently, with another low vis under development. The CAG bird is worn by Woody01 and the rest of use the other when flying the Hornet. After consultation, it was decided that the liveries would represent a Kiwi detachment of airmen operating US navy aircraft, much like the Czech, Polish, Canadian and other units have done throughout history. Skins for other aircraft will be developed when the templates become available. We also use the 3 sqn RNZAF Huey skin. If you enjoy flying with us, fit in and stick around, we will provide links for the skins! Kestrel Posted February 1, 2020 Posted February 1, 2020 Hi guys, this looks right up my alley. Signed up to SimCentral and awaiting activation. I'm based in Chch NZ and have been playing DCS since initial release, but never had any joy the very few times I've tried multiplayer (always found myself either in air quake or every man for himself affairs, usually with not much going on) . I much prefer structured (esp coop) missions but struggled to find anything at local times that suit (... until just now maybe). I own most DCS modules, but by far spend most of my time on the F14, F18, F5, Harrier, Su27, Su25T, Huey, Ka50 and warbirds (all of them). I have recently got the F16 but haven't got very far with that (yet). If there is a mission going tonight (being Sunday), I might drop in on discord if that is ok (I see the link is in an earlier post) and see what happens from there. Also love the idea of chopper Tuesday! Cheers. 8700k, 1080Ti, 16GB 3200 RAM, Warthog Hotas, MFG Crosswind Pedals, Rift CV1, Obutto R3volution
Woody01 Posted February 2, 2020 Author Posted February 2, 2020 Hi Kestrel, absolutely man jump on in, we will need all the help we can get tonight! Pretty much all our missions are coop and we have a great group with some really good banter. We have seen a huge boost from guys in CHCH over the last couple of weeks which is great! If you jump on early enough we might be able to get you hooked up with our Hornet skins, looks way cooler if everyone can see them. We will be on from about 19:50 tonight. See you in Discord, oh, better update the invite as well. Discord channel: https://discord.gg/9ckAbW The Flying Kiwis - Since ages ago... Find us at https://www.simcentral.co.nz

Woody01 Posted April 29, 2020 Author Posted April 29, 2020 We have lifted our game in the way we approach our Sunday night missions now due to popularity, we are seeing huge numbers these days which comes with its own set of challenges. So to keep things a bit more organized and to add a bit more realism to our missions we have a mission roster for people who want to join the mission to slot into their preferred ride and job. The briefings are much more thorough, comms/SRS channels worked, out, GCI etc... Even a tacview debriefing! Unfortunately this means keeping 'randos' out so you will now see our Sunday mission is password protected, a lot of effort by a lot of people goes into it now and we don't want random people coming in and stuffing it all up. But if your in the Australasian region and want to be a part of some really epic and unique missions jump on our discord channel, get to know the crew and chuck your hat in the ring in the mission briefing channel, let Rhino know what you want to do and we will try and fit you in.
