Jarlerus Posted November 24, 2019 Posted November 24, 2019 The AB render distance is very short, making it a non-factor for visual acquisition of other aircraft with NVGs on, and making it pop-in suddenly at short distances and at certain zoom-levels. (Reference: The F-16) Suggested fix: Make the visual signature be observable on realistic distances with NVGs, to at least manage the unrealistic pop-in effect of it. //Jarl Jarl at YouTube DCS Service Span and Wishlist Spreadsheet Forum post for discussion of above spreadsheet Retro Electro Playlist on Spotify
QuiGon Posted November 25, 2019 Posted November 25, 2019 +1 Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Callsign JoNay Posted January 18, 2020 Posted January 18, 2020 This is true for nav lights as well. I'm so tired of closing in on the TACAN of a tanker at night and it's nav lights are invisible until I get close enough (0.5 miles) to render the highest LOD model. I've heard real life pilots on youtube tell stories about how they can see a person smoking a cigarette from miles away, and how the entire Milky Way and orbiting satellites are visible with NVGs, and we can't see AB or nav lights of another aircraft until we're about to collide with them.
Harker Posted January 19, 2020 Posted January 19, 2020 +1 The models can still use the low poly models at a distance, but the lights and AB should be brighter and visible from much further away. Callsign JoNay Posted January 20, 2020 Posted January 20, 2020 Here's a video of a pilot telling a story about how he could see commercial nav lights from 100 miles away with his NVGs. I would think AB would be visible from the same distances, maybe farther. Timestamp- 36:42

Timestamp- 36:42 I also remember a pilot saying that one time he ended up flying towards an airliner by accident, because of this and the fact that he lost depth perception with the NVGs. He thought the nav lights were relatively close, while in reality the airliner was tens of miles away. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord.
