twistking Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 When trying out an ATC simulation game recently, I was surprised how well speech recognition works these days. Said game interfaced by default with windows 10 speech recognition and it had no problem understanding me, despite my obvious german accent. I don't know how the mcirosoft API for that works, but i guess that it was made easier by the limited pool of expected phrases. This would apply to DCS world also, where the algorithm would have a very limited pool of phrases and very strict syntax, making it much easier than general speech to text. I think it would make a great addition to DCS, especially with VOIP and proper radio simulation on the horizon. It could be done either as a complete package within DCS, or maybe just as an interface-option for a third party speech-recognition (f.e. windows speech recognition). Right now, you could of course use speech recognition as an input, but in very limited way only. A proper implementation would feed the actual words to DCS and not just trigger a virtual button. For those who are sceptical about the current state of the tech, i'd highly suggest to take a look at said ATC sim and how well it works with speech input. Svsmokey Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 (edited) VoiceAttack with the Vaicom Pro add-on works very well for all DCS AI comm functions , if you choose not to wait years for a native DCS implementation . twistking Posted November 28, 2019 Author Posted November 28, 2019 (edited) VoiceAttack with the Vaicom Pro add-on works very well for all DCS AI comm functions , if you choose not to wait years for a native DCS implementation . It looks very powerful i must say. I might check it out! However - as with most addon/mods - i would prefer an integrated solution. Johnny Dioxin Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 VAICOM also only works if Voice Attack recognises what you're saying - which it hasn't, ever, for me - despite loadsa fiddling, "inspection" by VA dev with advice etc - yet every other speech recognition I have used has been great, including for ATC. Just because such add-ons exist (and I bought them for VA for other games, too, and all of them are useless to me) doesn't make them the be all and end all for everyone ;) Exercise caution and always try before buying. Rig: Asus TUF GAMING B650-PLUS; Ryzen 7800X3D ; 64GB DDR5 5600; RTX 4080; VPC T50 CM2 HOTAS; Pimax Crystal Light I'm learning to fly - but I ain't got wings With my head in VR - it's the next best thing!
Kang Posted November 29, 2019 Posted November 29, 2019 Nice idea, but, really... today's newsletter makes me think that things like 'muting specific people in voicechat' is probably a 2021 thing, so... maybe not a good time to get started on this, too.
Worrazen Posted November 30, 2019 Posted November 30, 2019 Just let it not depend on some Microsoft/Subscription service that everyone would need to install. Interesting...Afaik VoiceAttack does not include native voice recognition . It uses Microsoft's utility . So one would think that if you have it working in one program , it would work in all . Perhaps a problem with the training regimen ? 9700k @ stock , Aorus Pro Z390 wifi , 32gb 3200 mhz CL16 , 1tb EVO 970 , MSI RX 6800XT Gaming X TRIO , Seasonic Prime 850w Gold , Coolermaster H500m , Noctua NH-D15S , CH Pro throttle and T50CM2/WarBrD base on Foxxmounts , CH pedals , Reverb G2v2
