EDIT: I Fixed it, Thanks All

Hi,

I have a Warthog HOTAS, I have several other modues which operate with every button/switch mapped as a "pulse". The hornet seems to be special in that you can modulate the airbrake by pressing and holding the brake to set the position that you want. With the command mapped as a "pulse" in the TARGET GUI, the brake moves a tiny bit and stops. If I press and hold the key on the keyboard it works as it should, so I mapped the command as a "hold" (when you hold the button down it keeps sending the key press). This however doesn't respond differently in game than the pulse. I tested the settings with the event tester and it appears to functioning correctly (the key press is as long as I hold the button). I am baffled why it doesn't seem to work right in game. I have the same issue with nose wheel steering when you have to hold down to enter NWS HI mode.

Any ideas?

Thanks

I use the same keybind for speed brake on Hornet as A10C - above the boat switch. Functions as intended for me..... I don’t use the TARGET software, or anything else for that manner. Have you tried without it?

Only time it changes, is when the flaps are changed from AUTO, to HALF or FULL. Then it requires pilot to hold the switch aft, is as intended (NATOPS manual).

@virtuolosity: I haven't used TARGET for a long time but I don't see why it shouldn't work as you intend.

I suspect that you are not binding the right commands. You should use "Speed Brake Switch - EXTEND" for extending and holding, and "Speed Brake Switch - RETRACT/OFF" for retracting and holding. From what I remember about TARGET, both need to be programmed to "hold".

I have stopped using TARGET since I got rid of the TM WH base and use the VIRPIL base with the TMWH grip, plus a DSD button box. I had to create a number of custom commands to replace functionality that TARGET could have provided -but only for my TM WH throttle. But since TARGET does nothing for my other controls I prefer to create custom commands which work on all controls.

For me its working ok

Script is as follows:

MapKey(&Throttle, SPDF, CHAIN(DOWN+Airbrake_in, D(4000), UP+Airbrake_in)); // if you forget it on, is is released after 4 seconds

MapKeyR(&Throttle, SPDF, UP+Airbrake_in); //if it is released before 4 secs, it aldso get released

MapKey(&Throttle, SPDB, Airbrake_out);

Test with TARGET - Advanced Configuration

I decided to try this and re-activated TARGET. Findings:

1. The command "Speed Brake Switch - RETRACT/OFF" has no keyboard code. I therefore used the command "Speedbrake Switch - RETRACT" instead. The disadvantage is that you cannot "hold" the retract movement.

2. I created a simple advanced test config in TARGET. To create an advanced config you have to click the "Advanced" button at the very beginning when you create the config. I then looked at the manual and followed the steps. I created the commands to EXTEND and HOLD the speedbrake with the switch "Speedbrake aft" and and the command to RETRACT with the "Speedbrake forward" switch.

I then verified with the Event Tester that the EXTEND command holds as long as the switch is pulled aft and the HOLD command appears when I release the switch to middle position. And finally I ran an instant action with the Hornet, and it worked as expected.

So the "Hold" option certainly works.

PS: It would be quite easy to add a keyboard command code for "Speed Brake Switch - RETRACT/OFF", but that requires addition of a line to the file "default.lua" under "...\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\FA-18C\Input\FA-18C\keyboard". So even using TARGET I would be obliged to customize the "default.lua".

I use the press/release command for that.

Thank you for all the replies! I think the problem may have been that I didn't clear out the default binding before adding my own. I tried clearing everything and re-applying the bindings and that worked.

I have the same setting...can bring the Speed-Brake out to a desired position, but retraction is full closed when pushing forward on the button.

My Viper is programmed to the same switch and with landing, once the nose falls off after aero-braking, I have to pull back and hold to get maximum speed-break deflection, although below 60 knots or so, it's not needed.

I have not used Target software...have to have a friend edit LUA for me, but I would love to find out how to make all the Warthog switches functional up and down in DCS.
