thereminqblank Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Recently I have been working on my first skin for Lock On and now want to view it. I tried inserting the Left and Right skins through the CDDS browser in Modman, but resulted in missing textures. I've been reading about placing the skins in the temptextures folder and creating an A-10.skins file to make the skin show up in the skins list within Lock On, but can't seem to work out the correct code for the .skins folder. SO far I have this, but it's very much guess work: models { lod = {"A-10", 1000000}; collision = "A-10-COLLISION"; } argument { argument = 70; skin { value = 0.0; material = {"A-10_Snow", "Standart", "A-10-OKRAS-L8.bmp"}; material = {"A-10_Snow", "Standart", "A-10-OKRAS-R8.bmp"}; } I'm not even sure what the name for the A-10 lod file is! Can anyone help me please? "Unholy Roller" [sIGPIC]http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/userbars/A-10C_UserBar_01.gif[/sIGPIC]
Colt40Five Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Make sure the skin files are named properly (if you are unsure what that is you can check the names with modman's cdds browser). Make sure they are in .bmp format. Place them in bazar/temptextures. Select the skin from the drop-down menu in the mission editor. Dazzle the enemy with your amazing custom paint job! thereminqblank Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 Is that all I have to do? I've named the files exactly how they are in the CDDS browser and tried placing them in bazar/temptextures, but the skin wasn't available in the drop down menu "Unholy Roller" [sIGPIC]http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/userbars/A-10C_UserBar_01.gif[/sIGPIC]
Colt40Five Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I've been skinning for over a year now and that's how I add ALL my skins to the game...double check the file name/type...other than that I don't know what the problem could be. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
thereminqblank Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 Okay then. Thanks for your help mate! "Unholy Roller" [sIGPIC]http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/userbars/A-10C_UserBar_01.gif[/sIGPIC]
crazyeddie Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 When you download a file from Modman it shows the file size as well as the name, is that your problem. Example: F4-OKRA-1-512x512. For the file to work in the Temp Textures file it should be F4-OKRA-1.
Azrayen Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Does a .skin file be effective with .cmd 3D models ? I thought it was only for new .lom models... that, unless I'm very mistaken, the A-10 doesn't have at the present time. Thanks Az'

Thanks for the ideas. I'm going to reinstall Lock On and try again because I have made sure that the files are named correctly, and nothing seems to work! thereminqblank Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 Okay, I have reinstalled Lock On and I'm still getting the problem! "Unholy Roller" [sIGPIC]http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/userbars/A-10C_UserBar_01.gif[/sIGPIC]
crazyeddie Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 Looks to me like you just have the wrong numbers on the different skins ?
thereminqblank Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 Looks to me like you just have the wrong numbers on the different skins ? Am I right in thinking that both the left and right skins should have the same number? I have named the skins: A-10-OKRAS-L8.bmp; and A-10-OKRAS-R8.bmp Which is what they are named in the CDDS browser. The weird thing is that the sides of the fuselage and the vertical stabiliser parts of the skin are on the two different skins. It's like parts of both skins are not showing. crazyeddie Posted December 4, 2007 Posted December 4, 2007 I had the same problem when I skinned the F18, took me ages to work it all out. This is how I did it: Extract all the original skins for the A10 from the CDDS files and line them up. Open up each skin file and see what it is, you should be able to tell which aircraft each file belongs to - then simply make a note which skin is needed for each of the different aircraft textures, so you end up with a list of the textures you need for each aircraft. Rename your new skins to to replace the original. One thing I noticed with the F18 was they used the same skin on several different aircraft, that can make it difficult to re skin a complete aircraft, your new skin might end up on an aircraft you did not intend it for. You have to play around with it - trial and error.
thereminqblank Posted December 4, 2007 Author Posted December 4, 2007 Okay, thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep looking, but all I can find so far for the A-10 are two files. Even other skins I've downloaded only have two files. "Unholy Roller" [sIGPIC]http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/userbars/A-10C_UserBar_01.gif[/sIGPIC]
thereminqblank Posted December 5, 2007 Author Posted December 5, 2007 I've figured it out now. For some reason, the skin doesn't like being placed in the L8/R8 slots! Thanks for your help and patience hehe "Unholy Roller" [sIGPIC]http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/images/userbars/A-10C_UserBar_01.gif[/sIGPIC]
Deadman Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 The resa reason is the Original A-10 CMD skinning system is a mess. the 104th skin is not made up of just the A-10Okras 8 Left and right skin but all so uses bits from two other skins if you down load Mitch Jansen's 23 52 and 104 skins pack then play with it you will see witch sides and other parts are pulled from witch Also some parts are pulled from the A-10 Okras fie for the pave penny body engine fronts and refueling door and some others the new Lom model will solve a bunch of problems for A-10 skinners https://forum.dcs.world/topic/133818-deadmans-cockpit-base-plans/#comment-133824 CNCs and Laser engravers are great but they can't do squat with out a precise set of plans.
