Hi,

i can´t find out, how he VOR navigation works with Viper. Not every airfield has TACAN station. I can not find any information in manual. Thanks.

Ok, so how to navigate to an airfield, which doesn´t have a TACAN station? Thanks.

Coordinates. That's why you have INS/GPS.

... and ... more basically, visual. Pilot have eyes, watches, compass and and charts.

Indeed, although that can get difficult in IFR conditions.

Dont forget you can also use the TACAN of another Airfield to find yours.

Just measure Distance and Radial and then use your HSI.

As statet by Dee-Jay there are plenty of options, you should be creative in usage and do a proper flight planning.

There is actually a method to convert VOR to TACAN and the other way around. If you convert VOR to tacan you will get distance but no bearing:

There is actually a method to convert VOR to TACAN and the other way around. If you convert VOR to tacan you will get distance but no bearing:

You are confusing VOR and DME. VOR is completely incompatible with TACAN. A TACAN receiver can interrogate a DME beacon and vice versa, giving the range between the two.

Okay, I guess that was what I was saying... You convert the freq of the VOR and that is why you get the DME only readout. It works the other way aroud also..

There are co-located VOR-DME facilities. A standard VOR station doesn't have DME service. DME is the range component of TACAN (e.g. all TACAN have DME service).

If, and that's an if, the VOR is a VOR-DME then there usually (always?) exists some TACAN channel number associated with that VOR's frequency. So you see a 102.3 MHz VOR-DME you know you can tune your TACAN receiver to 62X and the ~1000MHz frequency for that DME service will supply your TACAN with distance info.

ILSs are also channelized. When you enter 110.3 MHz that's the localizer frequency but the glideslope receiver knows to look up a different associated frequency to get the glideslope signal. The frequency pairing is set by rule. That ILS channel is 40X even though you'd get nothing from it by tuning a TACAN receiver to 40X since no TACAN service frequencies from that channel are in use.

The list you posted is a mix of DME reply frequencies, Localizer frequencies and VOR/VDB frequencies. Everything before channel 17X is a DME reply freq., between 18X and 56Y every even channel number is a localizer frequency (with the odd numbers being VOR), 60X-69Y are all DME replies, and 70X and up is VOR/VDB.
