Ducksen Posted January 12, 2020 Posted January 12, 2020 A quick question. Does anybody have a good solution to reducing the overly vibrant green terrain on the Caucasus map? The winter textures are AWESOME! The Trees are darker green and the terrain sometimes looks a bit black and white, Just like in real life. I have first hand experience with that. Love it. But the green version and somewhat the brown map in the Caucasus map looks like the saturation bar has gone to far right. Or maybe the shader model is off. This is not a bug report, nor a complaint. It is a simple question of is it possible to reduce the vibrancy of the colors? For I have not met anyone that thinks it looks a bit like a green block of lego, and less a green field of grass. On the other hand, add inn some clouds and rain and now we are cooking. Looks good right away. My colors on other games look like they should, but on DCS Caucasus not so good. Is there a solution that others apply? I feel a bit alone in this.
Harker Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 You can try installing a terrain mod, such as Barthek's Caucasus map mod and see if you like the result. I'm fine with the default textures myself, but if I wanted to change how they look, I'd go with that option, personally. If you don't want to alter the game files in any way or mess with mods, you can try to adjust the gamma in the in-game Options. It can be adjusted while you are in a mission, so you can see the effect immediately. Of course, that'll effect everything, not just the grass on Caucasus. Alternatively, you can play around with your monitor's settings, but again, it's a universal change. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Join the vCVW-17 Discord. Kailux Posted January 13, 2020 Posted January 13, 2020 At the risk of causing me a lot of trouble: properly calibrating the monitor, then adjusting ingame gamma accordingly. Works wonders. Gone for good.
draconus Posted January 16, 2020 Posted January 16, 2020 (edited) Spring is vibrant, Summer is less. The more sunny the more vibrant. The longer the shadows the more contrast. I actually compared the picture taken from Cessna flight over Poland in summer at sunny day (similar terrain) and it looked very similar to DCS color-wise. Also it's common for monitors to be overly vibrant unless set by the user properly.
