Hello and first of all thanks for stopping by!

I'm writing this post because I'm having a terrible DCS issue I can't seem to fix. The problem started a while back when I was having a look at the different gameplay settings, I think I was trying out GAME MODE and a few other things like helmet on sound, body in cockpit and G-effects on player head. After the issue emerged I tryied googling the problem but I could not find anything. I already tried cleanup/repair, complete uninstall and reinstall, updating, but NOTHING seems to be working.

The problem is as follows:

whenever I try to fly a mission (exactly when you have a mission loaded and you hit FLY) I get a completely black screen, with the game running "under it". Let me explain, it feels exactly as if my player in game could only see black, I can still fly the plane (if I move the throttle I can hear the engine, if I look around I can see colored tags of other aircrafts, if I eject I can hear the related sounds, if I press K I can see the map ecc..) but can't see anything. External views don't work either. If I look around I noticed that sometimes I can see a beam of light reflected but that's all. I also tried turning on nightvision googles and interesting enough they do kind of work! When they are on I can kind of see the outlines of the cockpit of the plane I'm flying.

I really hope you guys can help me fix this problem, prior to this I had been playing DCS for around 4 months without any kind of Issue!

(screenshots attached: internal cockpit view + internal cockpit view with night vision googles on + external cockpit view + random in game screenshot i took while the game was working).

p.s. my specs are:

Lenovo legion y740 - i7-8750H, RTX2060 6GB, 16GB ram

Thanks a lot and again

-Edoardo

Hi Edoardo welcome to the forum.

can you attach your dcs log, we may see some clues in there. C:\Users\yourname\Saved Games\DCS\logs

Also it maybe worth removing all unofficial mads, running a cleanup and repair and renaming your dcs folder in saved games location. ( keep it as a backup ) DCS will create a new one when it restarts.

Also ensure windows and your display driver are up to date.

let me know how you get on.

Thanks

Hello and thank you very much for you kind reply.

I'm attaching my log file as requested (seems to be a shaders problem maybe?).

By the way, I tried a cleanup but at the moment I can't run a repair since I don't have enough space to download the 33gbs it asks me. I tried renamin my folder but it's not working as well. My drivers are up to date.

Thank you very much for your kindness again, have a great day

Yes it does look like some shader errors, have you been using anything like reshade?

You are also in offline mode and have some authorisation issues.

I understand about hard drive space being an issue but I think the only way you will fix this is with a cleanup and repair, and updating to the latest version of DCS.

Thanks

No I never used reshade. Yes it's because I don't even bother to login anymore since the game isn't working properly... I will for sure free some space and try to download the requested update. Do you think there is anything else I can do to make the current installation work properly?

I think the cleanup and repair is the only way, and if you do that you may as well update to the latest version.

Ok, will do and I'll let you know if it fixes the issue! thank you very much for your support

Not sure if related, but I do frequently record my flying sessions in DCS using a screen capture software.

Recently I would see the whole recording be black (with the exception of the mouse cursor (ingame crosshair, not windows one) showing either immediatly upon launch of mission, or after 30 minutes or so.

The game itself played out perfectly well for me.

I did a repair and removed third party mods, still persisting.

Just got the same... since the latest OB update it takes me 15-20 minutes from desktop to cockpit, and in there it's pitch black. I hear things, can switch views, see the bottom bar and even click things in the cockpit if I hit the right spot. Menus for Comms, R&R or just Esc render totally OK.

My 1909 is just updated freshly and I removed all my personal mods (just a bunch of input luas and some sound replacements) and did a repair. No 3rd part AV installed, just relying on WinDef. I clear my metashaders2 and fxo folders with every update and did so after the repair as well.

Edit: Added dxdiag after upping nVidia to 442.19. I'll restart to be safe and try again. Input devices except for MFG pedals not connected BTW.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: No diff. But I tried waiting at the black screen. After a few minutes the cockpit appears. F10 works instantly, as well as F3, F4 and the others, except for F2 which stays black even for longer periods of time.

Then I fired up a copy of 40647 I still have on my HDD, it ran as expected, took me about 3 minutes to get inside the 'pit. Also tried copying over my SSD inst to that HDD to see if the SSD might cause the issue (just to rule out a possibly dying drive which would suck if true), again no diff, takes ages. It's clearly related to 43453. Didn't try rolling back to the last version, but I guess that's not necessary as the older one from December (Hotfix after Jeff release) runs properly. And I don't wanna wait half a day again just for a single flight or two, just to need lots of time again to get those terrain updates again when the next update hits. So I'll rather wait for a fix and do sth else or fly 40657 instead and have some fun coasting just above the deck with the Jeff at 300 knots with no thrust icon_exclaim.gif rdlaugh.png

----------------------------------------------------------------

Another edit to add my graphics settings. The new option's been off all the time. Didn't even have to flick it off, but I kept it off since I read of massive performance drops caused by that one in VR for lots of people.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Edit: OK since 43872, just the extended loading time to the menu of ~2:20 is still there in 43872 thru 45317 as of 45317 being the latest version at the time of writing this. Was ~1:20 in 2.5.5.

Hello, sorry I have just seen your message. I'm still having the issue even after formatting the pc and reinstalling dcs open beta last version. I'm beginning to lose hope.

Hello there, sorry for my late reply but I have been busy recently. I tried formatting my pc, reinstalling all drivers and dx11 but still nothing, even when running dcs open beta last release. So you are saying that older versions of the game do work properly??

Do you think is just a software problem that they are going to fix in a new release? It's quite sad because it's been 4 months now since I could properly play the game...

Hello there BIGNEWY, I finally tried uninstalling and reinstalling with a cleanup and repair ( i even formatted my pc, reinstalled all the graphics drivers and dx11) but the issue is still there...

I'm uploading a screenshot of an error I got last time I tried playing (I never had this error before) and my latest dxdiag. Hope we can find a fix. Thanks a lot and have a good day

Yes, all 2.5.5 and earlier versions did not bring the problem for me and it went away after the first update to the initial 2.5.6 version. So I can't help with your problem.
