Joghurt Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 Last weekend I was on a multiplayer server, and after some time found an aerobatics team, which I joined in their flight (had, like, a ping of about 250). Then, after the flight, I wanted to take some fancy screenshots of me with them, therefore I replayed the recorded track file. That's when I became irritated: On the replay I was not in their formation but, like, 100 meters off. So, no fancy screenshots for me. :( Explanation: From what I saw it looks as if a track file only contains the initial position of objects and then only the steering, control, wind and whatever information to redo the movements that the objects did, but not their absolute location at a given time. Probable cause: I'd say network latency in combination with storage format. Proposition: Please save snapshots of absolute object positions in the track files from time to time, like they do for e.g. with compressed movie formats like MPEG (see I-, P- and B-frames). It's like with what the problems were with the old INS systems: their location determination got worse over time - it got better when they started using absolute locations via GPS :smartass:
Art-J Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 I'm afraid snapshots of object positions won't help if the sim struggles with reliable tracking, sampling and recording physical controller inputs. It's been a well known problem in DCS for as long as it exists, and it causes track de-sync also in singleplayer, even in cold-started missions. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10.
Drag80 Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 The replay has bugs at the moment. I played a mission against three AIs and shot all three. The track file shows last AI shooting me down instead. I tried three times with same result.
razo+r Posted February 11, 2020 Posted February 11, 2020 That's another thing. AI behaves differently each time you replay the track.
