Backdraft
In the MI-8 can you set a manual FM Freq, say a ground unit sets a homing beacon( I want to trigger a message in game to tune to xx freq for pick up). can you dial in the FM number like in the Huey. ex 42.50. I have looked all over and read the guide and cannot see how.I only see presets Edited February 12, 2020 by Backdraft

Art-J
"??" back at you, I guess, 'cause it's not quite clear what you're actually asking about. Is it about radio tuning, or setting up ground units comms correctly in the mission editor? Manual tuning rotaries and "preset/manual" switch for R863 radio are located on central pedestal. No idea if that one can be used for contacting ground units, though, or if one has to use 828 or YaDRO instead. Never played with that feature of the module I admit. i7 9700K @ stock speed, single GTX1070, 32 gigs of RAM, TH Warthog, MFG Crosswind, Win10. Chic
Homing in the Mi-8 is done with ARC-UD in conjunction with R-828 Note that R-828 freqs are preset in Mission Editor then “selected” on the R-828 panel. No other way to dial freqs. For procedures see the DCS Flight Manual (117-119, 126-129) and Chuck’s Manual (95-97). unknown
You can use the ARK-9 to tune in on frequencies of 150KHz - 1300KHz(0.150MHz - 1.3MHz) and follow the needle. Manual 120 and following. I'm not sure if it's AM/FM or if it cares about them, it's a while since i used it. But you can set up an ground unit transmitting on this frequency and home in on it. Backdraft
Hi all , thanks for relies. I think I should have worded ? better. I want to be able to have an A/C Be assigned mid flight to a TIC support call on FM like in the Huey. So you are flying along and you get a tasking on your 863. To contact a Unit in Contact say 138.000 and they tell you they are transmitting on 42.50 FM. how do you tune that in. It was not a Pre Brief. Or a Preset. It could be a unit outside of your AO but you are closest to respond.
Chic
If you’re asking how you “tune that in” with R-828, the answer is through the ME. The only R-828 tuning you can do on the fly is with the Channel Selector. So, you can create your scenario with up to 10 FM freq options. Did you watch the vid I linked? Backdraft
Hey ChiC Yeah I saw it. But basically you cannot tune a freq while in the Air that is not a preset.

Backdraft
SO Unknown, is that what you are saying? You cannot tune in to a FM freq given say by a ground unit or a trigger to tune into while in flight. only presets can be used?
Looney
Yes, only presets can be used in the R-828, same as the KA50. For VHF homing, use the ARK-UD on any of its 6 preset channels (found in ...Mods\aircraft\Mi-8MTV2\Cockpit\Scripts\Devices_specs\Radio\ARC UD.lua) For FM homing (R828), set the R828 function to compass and follow the bearing indicator on the HSI. unknown
SO Unknown, is that what you are saying? You cannot tune in to a FM freq given say by a ground unit or a trigger to tune into while in flight. only presets can be used? Maybe i'm just misunderstanding you, do you only want to tune in a frequency to communicate with an unit or do you want to communicate on frequency xxx with unit 1 which tells you frequency yyy to home in on unit 2? Tuning in a frequency "on the fly" for communication is done like already described, see picture. But if you want to tune in a frequency for homing in on a unit(getting a direction to the unit) you can use the ARK-9 for this BUT you can't use the frequency 40.50MHz FM only between 0.100 and 1.300MHz AM/FM. For that case see the little quick and dirty video attached. If you are talking about none of this cases just ignore me because i got it all totally wrong then. :D Modules: KA-50, A-10C, FC3, UH-1H, MI-8MTV2, CA, MIG-21bis, FW-190D9, Bf-109K4, F-86F, MIG-15bis, M-2000C, SA342 Gazelle, AJS-37 Viggen, F/A-18C, F-14, C-101, FW-190A8, F-16C, F-5E, JF-17, SC, Mi-24P Hind, AH-64D Apache, Mirage F1, F-4E Phantom II System: Win 11 Pro 64bit, Ryzen 3800X, 32gb RAM DDR4-3200, PowerColor Radeon RX 6900XT Red Devil ,1 x Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus 2TB NVMe, 2 x Samsung SSD 2TB + 1TB SATA, MFG Crosswind Rudder Pedals - VIRPIL T-50CM and VIRPIL MongoosT-50 Throttle - HP Reverg G2, using only the latest Open Beta, DCS settings
