diditopgun Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Hi ! Will the rockets be more effective than in lockon and with different warhead ? In lockon it's not really a problem because of large weapon variety, but for the Ka-50 it's one of its main weapon. thanks. Aeroscout Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Yes, frankly, the rockets sucked in lockon. I hope they're better in BS. DCS Wishlist: 1) FIX THE DAMN RIVERS!!! 2) Spherical or cylindrical panorama view projection. 3) Enhanced input options (action upon button release, etc). 4) Aircraft flight parameter dump upon exit (stick posn, attitude, rates, accel, control volume, control-surface positions, SAS bias, etc). 5) ADS-33 maneuver courses as static objects. 6) Exposed API or exports of trim position and stick force for custom controllers. 7) Select auto multiple audio devices
EvilBivol-1 Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 So far, there is no selection of various warhead types for rockets (except smoke markers). I don't know if there is a plan to change this in Black Shark. I believe this is more a limitation of the damage model, which doesn't accout for fragmentation damage, only blast effects. I think this is something to be addressed when ED redesigns vehicle damage models, which isn't likely in Black Shark to any fundamental degree. Rockets have been "WAFMed" though and are now fully dynamic in flight. It does make for more natural behavior and visualization when firing. - EB [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Nothing is easy. ED Team JimMack Posted November 8, 2007 ED Team Posted November 8, 2007 Yes, frankly, the rockets sucked in lockon. I hope they're better in BS. The spread pattern of rockets is like a shotgun. Useful against infantry to keep their heads down. Chances of hitting a particular vehicle is low. Check research sources on the internet of actual combat results. Having problems? GGTharos Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 The intended target of those weapons isn't really modeled in LO, so it's a bit hard to make'em effective on targets they were -not- designed to take on. Avimimus Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I seem to remember someone saying that a new warhead model was in the works (to simulate shaped charges etc.) It would be nice to see customizable rocket pod mixes in future versions of the sim.
GGTharos Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I'm pretty sure something is being done in that direction, but I don't think it will be in BS. But slowly I think we will see both target and weapon quality increase - at least I hope so! :D [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
FOD Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 They are called missiles and not hittiles for a reason! Most of mine seem to miss the intended target, but I don't think thats down to modelling issues. Fragmentation would be helpful but for now I am happy to keep practicing at improving my aiming.
GGTharos Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 If you mean rockets, they are meant to 'spray'. You have but to watch some youtube videos of rocket strafing attacks to see that :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Aeroscout Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Try the S-13 or S-25's ;) You might just change your mind.......:) Ya, I'm sorry... I Fly the A-10 mostly if I'm moving mud. Those rockets aren't very good in lock on. The Russian ones are better. I agree with you there. Avimimus Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 You may want to try FC. There was an overhaul of the rocket system (tweaks to warheads and also continuous release if you hold down the trigger). If you expend half a pod on a target it increases PK tremendously! Btw. What do people feel is an appropriate lethality for most rockets? The zsu-23-4 doesn't have very thick armour and I would think that most warheads (and especially the armour piecing ones) would penetrate so long as they didn't hit at an extremely oblique angle. I assume that the hitpoint system at the very least is being overhauled for BS?
