BMGZ06 Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 So I am chasing fps drop and frametime spikes since yesterday. Steam VR beta(Aka WMR beta) was reporting default 100% figures in the pictures below. Even with the FPSvr settings turned down to lower res I get some random big frametime spikes that really are disorientating. Overall the FPS is higher for sure than I had yesterday with peak fps around 46. I have MSAA and SSAA off and PD at 1.0 with trees, render distance and grass all turned down or off. I am also trying to find the right spot for IPD. tried higher and lower and everytime I take googles off I feel cross eyed for awhile. I am wondering why all my default settings with resolution are totally off from the start. This is how it was from initial install of everything. I am running 3 monitors but I do not think that should impact the resolution scale. with the resolution turned down to lower setting in the pictures I can notice a lot more jagged edges and lack of smooth textures for sure. Also running DCS 2.5.5 The pictures go in order from top left to bottom right starting from default to final settings. BMGZ06 Posted March 5, 2020 Author Posted March 5, 2020 Now after rebooting steam VR and FPSvr it is showing the correct resolution but still getting random bad dips and frametime spikes over certain map areas. Is anyone getting this issue? after spending all this money I am really trying to figure out how to get the game to run well. I have reprojection off as well. Not sure I should turn it on. You might make a print screen of fpsVR when the spikes happens. Is it CPU or GPU that spikes ? (And as per our messages, check the RAM usage when it happens.) Not sure I should turn it on. No harm in turning it on to see if it improves things for you. If it doesn't, its easy to turn it right back off. BMGZ06 Posted March 7, 2020 Author Posted March 7, 2020 I did get it reset to 100% so that now in all programs 100% res shows the correct numbers. Helped a little but not much with fps drops. I did turn reprojection on and it didnt do much especially around the carrier group Still got fps drops and saw the light and dark blue indicators on. Then read some about how some people had to restrict dcs to use less than all cores to get a more stable fps. I restricted it to cores 5 & 6( no real reason) and it seems improved but random drops around the carrier can still happen but it is less. Not sure if I need more RAM since others have tested more ram but without improvement. CPU is looked at 5ghz all the time, and the 2080ti is always above 2100mhz clock and 8000mhz memory.temps are all good. CPU never gets above 58c and gpu may get above 52c. RAM and SSD temps are all great. I am wondering if the headset is actually losing tracking and causing the fps drops or just a signal drop when i look around. my walls are mostly white and then looking straight ahead I have 3 black monitors then a large black mousepad with a dark grey desk. Maybe lights in the room could need to be brighter. I need to be brighter as well. I hit 60c all the time. could be Steams issues with resetting the tracking, I get it all the time (with IL2 ) but I'm not using steam to run DCS, you might want to try another compositor? sirrah Posted March 8, 2020 Posted March 8, 2020 I am also trying to find the right spot for IPD. tried higher and lower and everytime I take googles off I feel cross eyed for awhile. The peak it hits in DCS normally is 58 and that is mostly due to the fact that I undervolted the CPU to 1.27v with LLC set at medium so it doesnt allow it to add crazy useless voltage. It cuts down on heat and power usage. System Specs: 13900K, Strix Z790 Gaming E, MSI 4090 Sprim Liquid X OC'd, 64gb Gskill Trident Z DDR5, Samsung 980 PRO M.2 SSD,.
