GazAce Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Hey all, firstly sorry if this has already been answered. I just wish to know how far away is a fully complete version of the F/A-18C DCS Manual? Just curious here and call me old school but I would probably get that printed. Dagger71 Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 (edited) I just wish to know how far away is a fully complete version of the F/A-18C DCS Manual? We will never have a fully complete version of the manual. At least not for years. There will always be addendum, errata, and possibly additional systems and weapons being added over the the next few months and even years. To know when we will have the most complete manual is actually knowing when the F18 will be feature complete! Case in point, even the flagship A10C is going to have some minor changes to it, that will require changes to the manual, I am sure. Not even in the real world are there fully complete manuals. Only most recent versions So as others said, however you will always find the most RECENT manual in the doc folder of each module you own. Go ahead and print it off, adding pages to it as the systems, weapons get added. Don't let the fact that it is still in EA stop you! Edited March 12, 2020 by Dagger71
QuiGon Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 To know when we will have the most complete manual is actually knowing when the F18 will be feature complete! Which we do know: By the end of this year. That's also when I would expect the full manual at the latest as stated before. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Dagger71 Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Which we do know: By the end of this year. That's also when I would expect the full manual at the latest as stated before. No we do not know that for a fact.
QuiGon Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 No we do not know that for a fact. We do. You apparently missed EDs announcement on this. Dagger71 Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 We do. You apparently missed EDs announcement on this. No I didn't. ED's timeline by their own admission is subject to change. They never guaranteed any module to be feature complete by the end of this year. Nor am I counting on the F18 to be totally feature complete by end of this year. I am sure most of it will be complete but highly doubtful every system and payload will be completed by end of this year.
QuiGon Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 No I didn't. ED's timeline by their own admission is subject to change. They never guaranteed any module to be feature complete by the end of this year. Well, that's the goal that ED set for themselves. Sure, a lot can happen and everything can change. Maybe we all die from Corona in the next few weeks or the earth gets destroyed by an asteroid... In terms of likelihood, I'd say those 2 possibilities you referenced have an extremely low % chance of occurring. But ED does not exactly have a stellar track record of completing work on time or ever. Personally, I think the chance of the F-18C still being in "early access" and reasonably incomplete at years end is very high. Actually, I'm not holding my breath that it ever reaches a state of "completion", since the ED business/financial model seems to be based on constant development of new modules, which are released as payware far before they are ready for prime time. I'm not trying to bash ED. I'm just being realistic and understand that it makes more sense for them to put development resources toward new products that will bring maximum cash flow rather than into older "early access" modules that have already been purchased by the vast majority of potential customers.

But ED does not exactly have a stellar track record of completing work on time or ever. I think this is a huge misconception, because ED rarely gives any dates for their work, so people make up their own deadlines and then blame ED for missing them. If ED does state dates for their work, then they usally fulfil them. Not always, yes, but mostly. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

There isn't a single module that was completed by a deadline ED set. It's understandable and we accept it. I don't think too many people expect F18 to be feature compete anytime this year when there is still so much left to do: ATFLIR Navigation A/A radar completion A/G Radar and all submodes ECM Munitions JHMCS option HUD Will it come out of EA this year.. yes probably.. will it be feature complete with all system fully functional.. HIGHLY UNLIKELY! The F18 has come a long way since release, and we all look forward to the many major changes coming up over the next couple of years! Edited March 12, 2020 by Dagger71
QuiGon Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 (edited) No I think we are all used to setting realistic goals. There isn't a single module that was completed by a deadline ED set. Then please tell me which ED aircraft missed its final release deadline since the A-10C got released? The P-51? The BF-109? The FW-190? The Spitfire? The Albatros? That's all the aircraft that ED released since the A-10C and I can't remember any of them failing a release deadline. I'm not even sure how many of them even had a release deadline. We are talking about taking it out of EA...Feature complete.. nothing else to finish. You made the claim ED almost never misses a deadline. If you think F18C will be completed (ALL features, ALL systems,) within the next 9 months, then that is on you. For the rest of us, we'll take each new feature as they come and be realistic.
