So, on the good note, I really enjoy flying the JF, very capable fighter/attacker, however I still struggle with its radar. At least in MP the radar elevation is still behaving weird, friendly contacts appear on the radar much faster than hostile even though they are co altitude and right next to each other. It can't see anything beyond 50mn. Idk either I am not doing something right or compared to Hornet and Viper it is has the worst radar even though it is a newer plane, so it should at least match their performance.

It will not match them in absolute range, especially Hornet, and it still has ground stabilization problems that causes you to lose lock at right roll angles, should be fixed soon

i understand it won't see up to 160nm but at lest should be able to see something 70nm out. right now on average I get roughly less than 50 nm

Depends what you’re locking, what altitude, what PRF, which mode, look down or up look amount

If you’re closing VS is longest range since it doesn’t measure range

What are you trying to lock??

Detection range is based on target aspect, RCS, altitude, etc.

If you place a IL76/C17 in front of U and with headon aspect at 20Kft, U will get the 70NM detection range.

The manual is stating the following:

3.3.2 Radar’s AA mode and performance

KJL-7radar has the following AA modes: RWS, TWS, VS, ACM, SAM, STT and DTT. For target

with RCS=5m², radar has a detection range of ≥100KM if target is higher than aircraft, ≥80KM

look down range. In TWS mode, radar can track up to 10 targets.

That would be a range of ~55nm and would match what you saw?

To be fair, you don't need the radar until bandit is <20 miles. You can see them clearly on data link.

You will however need radar in situation where you are heavily outnumbered and awacs alone misses bandits. They may then sneak up on you with an AIM120. The only warning you will get is the sudden yellow box with f18 but by then SPAMRAAMS are already on their way. They could also fire maddog which is even scarier as no warning except red (120) on HSD. Zero warning whatsoever if you don't have SPJ pod.

It's great when you have an awacs, but when AWACS is not on station, then you're pretty screwed because others will see you way beyond the range you will be able to see them. Yes, I know the rwr will show me the direction of the bandit, but by the time I'll find them through adjusting elevation they either are with shot range and or I'm at disadvantageous position to fox.

Just checked, it's still there when unlocked. Pitching up moves the scanzone down, pitching down moves it up.

EDIT: TWS bugging and STT is fixed tho. Radar scan now properly tracks HPT in the middle

EDIT2: Just checked changelog. Fixed internally, now we wait for hotfix (hopefully tomorrow)
