ED Team BIGNEWY Posted April 5, 2020 ED Team Posted April 5, 2020 Hi Currently team members are working hard on it. Once we can give you news we will, at this stage we are not sure what performance gains will be made and we have no data to share with you all yet. Thank you for being patient. Should be some gains but I guess not quite as much as transitioning from the awful openGL.
beppe_goodoldrebel Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 Thanks. Should be some gains but I guess not quite as much as transitioning from the awful openGL. But DCS is more CPU dependant cause many things work in the background.
Notso Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 But DCS is more CPU dependant cause many things work in the background. So my understanding is Vulkan is a GPU API and as such would have no impact on CPU usage? Is this correct? I am heartened to hear that ED are working hard on incorporating Vulkan. It seems to be the new "thing" in 3D graphics. Hopefully we'll see some good performance gains, especially in VR. Fingers crossed. Shortcut Posted April 5, 2020 Posted April 5, 2020 X Plane 11 just added Vulkan 11.50ab1 and what a improvement in VR. I stopped using X Plane because how bad it performed in VR now it's enjoyable even with me turning up the settings. It will be a huge improvement when DCS finally gets it. 13700K, MSI Z690 D4 Edge wifi, Swiftech H360X3 Cooling with Corsair Water Block, Gigabyte 4090 OC, 64gb Trident Z 3600 CL16, Evga 850W G2 power supply, Moza AB9, Virpil Apha Prime, Winwing Orion 2 Viper, TM Warthog, MFG Crosswinds With Damper, TrackIR 5, HP Reverb 2, Pimax Crystal
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted April 6, 2020 ED Team Posted April 6, 2020 It will be a huge improvement when DCS finally gets it. We do not know at this stage what performance gains we are going to see, we will post when we have news. We don't discuss other sims as things escalate quickly here. grammaton_feather Posted April 6, 2020 Author Posted April 6, 2020 (edited) But DCS is more CPU dependant cause many things work in the background. Ancient dual core code is a bottleneck but still DCS requires a lot of GPU performance. I noticed a significant boost in performance going from 1070 to 1080Ti. DX11 is a big bottleneck. I'm talking about VR users rather than flat-earth DCS users. VR places a higher load on GPU. Edited April 6, 2020 by grammaton_feather 1
