If this wish is for creating background activity at your airbases, you can use the RAT script to have friendly air traffic amongst your airbases, they will not only taxi, but also take off and land ... and it will be random, so that it will be different background activity each time you play the mission, it looks like this:

Would be awesome if ED could implement an "air traffic" option as part of the core game though

 

Just as we have for civil ground traffic (well... maybe it should be done a little bit better :P)

 

 

I tried to use RAT, but I'm probably not smart enough to get it to work properly. Also I prefer to keep my DCS clean of mods to prevent sudden unpleasant surprises and crashes after installing a new patch.

 

So if the OP's suggestion is, to include some sort of an air traffic option to the core game, than that's a big +1 for me.

 

Also, more AI aircraft options would be very welcome! Such as aircraft waiting for their wingmen on the "holding apron" (not sure if that's the correct terminology) before they taxi onto the active runway, or adding an option to make AI aircraft do touch and goes.
