Crawleysnipe Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Since budget is an issue for me, I cannot afford the Warthog. If you had the choice between the Thrustmaster T.16000 or one of the Logitech series, which would you choose and why please? I'm very, very new to DCS and am now playing with a controller which is, to say the least disheartening. Any and all help/input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.:helpsmilie:
Art-J Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 (edited) Thrustmaster - simply because of utilizing hall sensors (the same as in Warthog I believe) instead of potentiometers, at least for X and Y axis, because throttle might be still be on potentiometer? You'll have to check. Anything contact-less is better in the long run than pots, which wear out sooner or later (from personal experience with Logitechs - rather sooner). Granted, I've read that apart from sensors, the rest of T16k is kind of budget quality-level, but that's expected from entry-lever hardware. David OC Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I still have the older thrustmaster t.16000m, just the stick . The problem is the lack of hats, for the fighters, A-10C etc. It's a great first stick. I then bought the CH HOTAS system. The CH Fighterstick still works and has all the hats!. Now using VKB Pro, still with the CH pro throttle. I replaced the potentiometer in the throttle with a good one, now it's much better. i7-7700K OC @ 5Ghz | ASUS IX Hero MB | ASUS GTX 1080 Ti STRIX | 32GB Corsair 3000Mhz | Corsair H100i V2 Radiator | Samsung 960 EVO M.2 NVMe 500G SSD | Samsung 850 EVO 500G SSD | Corsair HX850i Platinum 850W | Oculus Rift | ASUS PG278Q 27-inch, 2560 x 1440, G-SYNC, 144Hz, 1ms | VKB Gunfighter Pro Chuck's DCS Tutorial Library Download PDF Tutorial guides to help get up to speed with aircraft quickly and also great for taking a good look at the aircraft available for DCS before purchasing. Crawleysnipe Posted April 17, 2020 Author Posted April 17, 2020 Thanks so much for the replys guys. Would this be a good one for me to start off with? I'm hoping getting a HOTAS will help me be a better pilot (gotta be better than an xbox controller lol) and make the sim more fun. https://tinyurl.com/y8obukbl. Thanks again.
Beirut Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I have the throttle that goes along with the T.16000 and I like it a lot. I have it paired with a MS FFB2. My old cheaper HOTAS was two low end flightsticks and it worked really well. The "throttle" flightstick was at 50% power at center rest, push for more pull for less. Worked great, very precise control, and very active/immersive to use. And you still get all the buttons for whatever you want. Some of the planes, but all of the maps!

You might want to read up on that a bit. I think the same model with grey markings instead of blue might be the updated and better version of that HOTAS. Maybe someone else here knows more about that. Some of the planes, but all of the maps!
Crawleysnipe Posted April 17, 2020 Author Posted April 17, 2020 As it seems that the X56 seems to be sold out EVERYWHERE! Is there another HOTAS someone could recommend that isn't $800? The T.16k is starting to look good lol.
Beirut Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I don't have the T.16000 flightstick but I can recommend the throttle that it pairs with. I've had mine for over a year and had no issues. Some of the planes, but all of the maps!
AlpineGTA Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I have the T16000 and am very happy with it. I looked at the Logitech controllers but was put off by some reviews of poor reliability. The stick has the same 16bit control system as the Warthog stick and I find it very smooth and precise. I would prefer if it had a couple more hats and buttons on the stick and a front pinky lever for nose wheel steering would be useful, but it makes up for it with the 12 base buttons, which I find useful for assigning things like flaps, landing gear, master arm switch etc. Especially if you fly in VR. You can also twist the stick for rudder controls if you wish. The best part for me is the throttle, it has plenty of hats and buttons all in the right places that fall easily to hand. And they closely mirror the positioning of those found on real jets, compare for example to the real F/A-18 throttle, which really helps with easy control mapping. There are also paddles on the front that you can use for rudder if you don't want to use the stick twist. I also like the smooth sliding action of the rails. I think it's one of, if not the best HOTAS out there for the price. Also, there are lots downloadable control profiles for this HOTAS. I believe it's also possible to pair the Thrustmaster Warthog control stick with the T16000 throttle, if you feel like in future upgrading the stick to something with more hats (although you would lose those buttons on the base). i5-11600K CPU, 64GB DDR4 RAM, XFX Speedster MERC319 AMD Radeon 6900 XT, Oculus Quest 2, HP Reverb G2
Bananabrai Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Have you had a look at used stuff? I hated my X52 from the beginning on, and it was new. So much, that I abondoned buying new cheaper stuff and instead bought used better quality stuff. Now I earn my own money, but as a student that was the best option. Alias in Discord: Mailman

There is actually a "renewed" X56 Rhino on Amazon for $194. I guess I can try that. It's Amazon, so if it doesn't work, I can send it back lol. Thanks for the reply.
